Both had nice campaigns that you could attack-move through. DoW1 just had bigger (ie. better) blobs of troops to do it with. On top of that DoW2 had rubbish bosses. Bloody micro forcing bullet sponges...

Dark Crusade also had a neat campaign mode that wasn't only space marines.

Ahahaha... aky, aky. All of the expansions had that :P

Also I guess DoW2 had that too, eventually. Sorta'. Maybe not so much neat, but it was definitely there.

Did they? Like, the campaign mode, not skirmish.

Yes! The second one was alternating factions with a choice between playing a... well, less evil (IG, Eldar, and... maybe SM, too?) and evil (Chaos, orkz, possibly something I'm forgetting) campaign , and Soulstorm's campaign was mostly just DC's again.

I knew about Soulstorm's, but i hadn't treid Winter Crusade's. I'd thought it would be more marines.

No, but you get to escort some Ultramarines in one IG mission.

/tg/ is having an aneurysm over the screenshots, cause it's not exactly like dawn of war 1 an imaginary game they've constructed in their memories and called "dawn of war 1"

Well, let's say you're going away from Earth on huge spaceship and suddenly shit goes wrong and you have Super Mutants. Social Experiments prepared them for this.

There is something really weird going on with me. On one hand, I played the ever loving Puddin' out of Dawn of War 1 & 2. On the other hand, it looks like they're going to include a lot of the goofy additions from newer Editions. Like that incredibly stupid looking Dreadknight and those weird... Kabuto Titans.

I'm also curious if they're gonna try to actually balance the game this time around. Dawn of War 1 sunk like a bread submarine after Winter Assault. Playing Online with the newer Addons was laughable at best, and infuriating at worst. DoW2 did a little better, but was by no means great. Retribution was playable Online, but there were still tons of imbalances and wonky mechanics they never fixed. It was still enjoyable, and I actually still play it from time to time. On a basic bear & pretzels level it's a ton of fun to just play around with the different races and blow sh*t up. But as someone who actually played it competetive back in the day, I do hope they actually put some more effort in this time around.

I'd kinda like a 40K game in the spirit of Empire at war, in which the only (or at least most of the) forces you can use in a battle are those that you built on the campaign map and brought to the battle. I had some utterly brilliant last stands and grand invasions and such due to that.

Like the one time the enemy managed to sneak a medium sized fleet through my defenses into an under-defended production planet. With only the minimal garrison and native units you get on the map if there are factories and stuff I had to keep rushing them to the landing zone to shoot down the invaders as they landed, to prevent them from capturing another landing zone and getting even more troops down. Luckily the natives were on my side, so I could send wave after wave of respawning wookies to try and hold them down while trying to patch breaches in the defensive line. In the end I won through attrition, the attacker running out of meat for the grinder and retreating. Lucky to, cause I was scraping by on the very last forces, and just 1 more squad of droidekas could have finished me of.

Dreadknight? I think your talking about the Imperial Knight, which actually came from some of the earliest 40k tabletop games that they finally updated, Dreadknight is the Grey Knight baby carrier.

The Wraithknights are okay looking at least, like smaller Phantom titans.
