I think it would be a scaling up because Space Marines are bigger than guardsmen. If a Rhino can hold 6-8 Space Marines it would be larger than a Chimera.

Urgh super disappointed by the screenshot. I was hoping for some sort of 'next gen' RTS with hundreds upon hundreds of units, planet scale battles and the like, rather than just a bog standard RTS that hasn't moved on since C&C Generals + GW.

There have been a number of RTS's that have come out recently that I've gotten and I've been hopelessly bored with them in a few hours. It's all been done to death. Starcraft managed to push it on by having an interesting enough story (especially wings of liberty) and a vast mixture of mission types, but that's pretty much wrung out the last standard RTS drop.

Just. Urgh.

Didn't watch trailer, but that thing in the screenshot is indeed an Imperial Knight, you filthy Titan shouting casuals.

They are kinda like Medieval-Age knights, sort of independent within Imperial army, members of their own chivalrous orders or some being questing knights, offering help when and where they think is needed. Which I guess is what's going on in that picture because do note "Imperial" in their title and two-headed eagle on the guy's chassis - they are not a part of SM chapter at all.

At least, if I got that memorized from wiki correctly.

Of course. Games need to be as obtuse and hard to get into as possible, that's how you know they're good.

I for one hope they intend to bring painting your own factions back. That was a fun part of DoW 1.

Also KNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHTS.

Back? You could paint them in DoW2 too... right? Or was it just in Retribution? I'd have to check.

They were paintable in DoW2 (tho the feature was hidden in a rather retarded way, especially when GfWL was still present) but the palette went from "whatever the fuck you imagined" to "Citadel Paints" , which was still a lot of different paints, but you never could pull off the perfect fluorescent pink with them.

PC gamer has an interview/demo thing, and I read it really quick. Looks like we'll get 3 factions for the campaign at launch, which makes me suspect the rest will be in expansion-pack form. This is a real shame because FOR THE GREATER GOOD and KHAYOSS.

for one I hate dlc, but on the other hand if it means the studio lives long enough to fix all the bugs and get multiplayer on point I might even get them (on discount)

So apparently, they went for more "cartoon/clean" like visuals and less detail, and not dark and gritty as in first two games, such a shame. Zoomed in, model looks less detailed than DoW 2.  The good news is the full base building  DoW 1 stile is back with bigger number of units like in first game. You can also chose 3 elites/heroes to take to a mission, as well as you unlock new elites during the game, and can level them up.  But it looks like they dumb down a lot of things, "to be their most accessible RTS yet" and that worries me a lot.

Yeah this stinks of factions-as-expansion-pack, kinda rude given that even before we only ever got 4 starting races but also, yeah, if expansions are actually of good quality like in previous DoW games...

pretty sure the site said titan. Will double check.
Yeah that was a bit of a tongue-in-cheek from my side and as said I was judging only from screenshot. Would be neat if there were titans, like, actual buildable/teleported/whatever units, not some sort of map restricted event or something (though that would be passable too) as that would mean the scale of battles is being expanded to Epic levels... But I'll have to agree with Retropunch here, screenshot isn't showing any drastic change from past titles.

Which is a shame because while I liked all of the DoW games (yes, even Retribution, although admittedly it was kind of a mixed bag), picture painted by Retropunch and OzyTheSage is just too sexy to pass. In fact, this screenshot? I could easily mistake it for (a bit prettied-up) DoW2: Retribution bar the Knight, heck, given what Elite Mod already brought to that game I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to put Knight in DoW2 somehow, someday.

Hopefully, with Warhammer Fantasy being made into grand-scale video game, we can but hope something like that happens with WH40K too, someday.

edit: so it really is DoW 1 scale + DoW2 heroes after all. I'm content with that, for now.

Anything that doesn't go full Tib twilight is still a respectable rts, as far as accessibility goes. And anything that does is heresy.
Whether they can make an interesting accessible rts is a much different matter.

The thing is that both DoW 1 and DoW 2 are not exactly complex games or hard to get into, and apparently this one one will be a lot more "accessible " than first two. This doesnt smell good.
