Well, that'd certainly be a plot point, if you'd like to work with me, Elf
I mean, it makes sense, right?
THEORYCRAFTING:
- Freyja's implied to have been abused by her (step)mom or someone else.
- Adults around her wouldn't like her (enough to beat her or worse) if she's actually a bastard (the illegitimate child, not the asshole kind).
- Doubly so if Freyja's part-Burakani, so she's part non-human AND half-foreign.
- The only reason she has Frostwind inheritance is because her dad was a decent man and took responsibility, claiming Freyja as his own child through adoption (necessary to make her legitimate because she's a bastard rather than his actual heir).
- That would explain why Shina was so pissed off when someone killed Freyja despite knowing about resurrection; Freyja's her daughter, of course she'd be pissed. And why Ludmilla hated her; she knows the rumours that Freyja is part-foreigner/part-Burakani.
- This would also explain why she wants to protect Freyja so much; wouldn't a mother want to watch out for her kids?
- As for why she didn't stay; she's a foreign nonhuman who's already a pariah in her own society. The Frostwinds don't seem that nice, Freyja and her dad (according to this theory) aside. She had to leave for her and Freyja's safety. The hair can be explained by her dad rather than her mom giving the hair colour.
-This also explains at least some of how Shina knows about the north and gives her somewhere to be between the end of the Andou-Edo War and the present day.
- That would also explain why werewolves hate her so much; not just the Frostwind blood, but she's also part-cat
