Okay my character gets +2 defense and strength when they are protecting the innocent and defenseless ((children townspeople ect,)) and we have several characters who could be considered innocent or children.

Freyja is the only person who qualifies, being the only child in the party.

Nope. Innocent in the sense that they have not comitted wrongs, but being alone (at one point, I would safely assume) in the Wastes guarantees loss of innocence.

Which means protecting almost anyone in the party will give you the bonus, and that's overpowered.
Plus that's entirely subjective. You hate, say, sinners? Killing sinners isn't considered a wrongdoing, then.

The person playing the character who gets a bonus protecting the innocent (and, therefore, would know what makes someone "innocent" and grants the bonus) doesn't know what a sin that can remove innocence would be?
