My character is not a freshie Knight they are a soldier with 6 years of experience who got promoted into a holy Knight.

She is 22 years old. She is not a veteran. Six years and a lucky promotion do not constitute as being a veteran. Try again.

There are at least two heathens in the group on a mission from a god neither of them worship, and it's likely neither like them either.
Plus another is against the organization that's authorizing the senseless slaughter.
Three reasons for a leader right there.

Ah, yes, place one person who is likely to have bias against someone else or have bias placed against themselves in a position of power over the rest of the group, whether actual power or the appearance of such. What an excellent plan.

6 years and having great potential and holy knights being as high in rank as Kings guard does say she's a veteran.

6 years does not a veteran make. After 10-15 years, we can start talking, but six years of service does not make her a veteran. Calling yourself a veteran after 6 years is a great way to get laughed at.
Unless she fought in a major war. In that case, sure, you can call yourself a veteran within reason.

Not everyone will agree with the mission of a god, not everyone will agree with the organization that allowed the mission, and if one of these people (or a person they wouldn't agree with either) is placed as leader, it will cause issues.

That potential thing was why she was recruited and she has clearly shown skill if she was even allowed the option to become part of the Kings guard or a holy Knight.

Then that automatically makes the heathens, the person who disagrees with slaughter, anyone who follows the god that the heathens hate and anyone who supports the organization responsible for the slaughter ineligible for being the leader, which leaves like five people.

Okay my character gets +2 defense and strength when they are protecting the innocent and defenseless ((children townspeople ect,)) and we have several characters who could be considered innocent or children.
