Name: Lillian Rook. “Real” last name is Steelwood, but she doesn’t know that.
Age: 19, approaching 20
Gender: Female
Appearance: Lillian, clothes aside, does not look like how one would think of a farmgirl. She is about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with silver-colored eyes and straight brown hair that goes a bit past the shoulders (this is dyed because her father asked her to do so; her natural color is a very light blonde, although it seems closer to white to some people). Features-wise, she seems more on the side of “cute”, but one gets the sense she could be more than that if she bothered to try. She generally wears comfortable and warm clothing in dark colors like brown or black.
Personality: Hard-working, kind, loyal
Background:
When one thinks of the town of Tref Haearn, or “Iron Town”, what one usually thinks of is the vast metal stores that make the town the booming economic center it is. What one does not think of is the rich soil that is in the entire territory and allows Iron Town to grow so quickly without running out of food. Lillian does not forget these lands, as they are her livelihood. Growing up in a small farming village right on the border of the territory, Lillian grew up being told to work hard, be kind, and other such lessons, by her father Arlan Rook. She also learned how to mix potions and salves, in order to cheaply and easily treat the sicknesses of people and animals. She was also told which mixes would be dangerous…
While she is unaware of this, her father’s real name is Arlan Steelwood, brother to the current head of the Steelwood family. The Steelwood family were Tref Haearn’s founders and leaders, known for their familial politics and the inheritance issues that come with having so many children. Arlan himself had sired six children before Lillian, and that’s not even getting into all the children his siblings have had. Needless to say inheritance debates and who becomes the next head arguments get… heated. Arlan himself was part of this world, until he met Lillian’s mother, a simple produce farmer, while on the town. Things happened quickly, and months later Lillian was conceived. Unlike his previous partners, Arlan truly loved this woman; he didn’t want her, or their daughter, to get caught up in his world. They would never let him leave, though; he, and any children he sired, would still be fully eligible for inheritance, and his family would want them where they could see them. So he faked his death with the help of sympathetic servants, changed his name, and ran away with his beloved. Months later, Lillian was born, and it seemed like it was a success. However, some of Arlan’s siblings are unsure of whether he is truly dead, and a different last name does not stop Lillian from having the distinctive features of the Steelwood line, the silver eyes and white-blonde hair and other less obvious features.
Lillian’s family- the Rooks, not the Steelwoods- is in dire straits, which brings us to her reason to go to the Frostfell Wastes; a recent sickness has been afflicting many of the crops of Tref Haearn, causing a famine among the poorer classes as the rich import food from outside. Lillian negotiated to have food and funds sent to her family while she works for the adventurers of the church, and fully intends to leave once crops can be grown again. Besides, perhaps her experiences will make her a better person? Or perhaps she will learn of her heritage?
