Name: Shina Mochimo
Age: 38
Gender: Female
Appearance: Shina is a slender girl with an athletic frame, with olive-toned skin from years of wandering, marked with a few scars from her brushes with death in combat. Her face is small when uncovered, and her eyes are a deep hazel. Her brown hair is tied in a ponytail to keep it out of the way of her bow, and two, brown-furred cat ears mark her out as not being human. Her clothing is quite plain, with russet and brown tones and thick leather boots. A reddish scarf is wrapped around her neck to protect it from the heat or cold and held tight with a brooch in the shape of a crane marking her out as a former member of the army of the Grand Duchy of Edo, with her clothing as rugged as possible while remaining light, and a small quiver hangs at the side of her belt, next to several prayer tags.
Or this, but with a ponytail and cat ears.Personality: Friendly and as helpful as she can be, if somewhat hardened due to her travels. In combat, she tends to let herself loose, her yelling abilities and ferocity only matched by her ability in healing her allies.
Background: In the Grand Duchy of Edo to the west, there is a race of beings called the Burakana, distinguished mainly by their animal-like traits, such as tails, eyes and claws, said to have been descended from a cursed woman who fell in love with a disgraced prince, with the Burakana being their progeny. As a result, they tend to be discriminated against due to this legend, with the few escaping this fate marrying into the families of nobles and hiding their animal traits as best as they can, hoping to fit into society. The rest are banished to far off villages, working as the executioners, the butchers, the embalmers and other undesirable jobs of the Duchy.
Shina was born to two embalmers, who cared for her very much. There wasn't much to her childhood, though she always showed promise with a bow and was rather good with horses- that is, aside from the discrimination against her and her people as pariahs of society.
As soon as she was old enough, at the ripe old age of 14, she ventured out to join the army in an attempt to leave the village (with her parents' blessing) and see the world; the local earl conscripted her into his armies of Burakana and human levies. Despite some problems and issues attempting to join and then suffering from discrimination, Shina showed promise and was educated as a Companion, a skilled horse archer who also assisted their allies by providing healing through prayers and songs to the goddess Fumikata, mistress of healing, songs and archers; however, she never really had any faith in the goddess herself, simply taking up the training as part of the military.
She served for a while with distinction in the earl's army before the armies of all the lords of Edo were reduced in a war with the Holy Principality of Andou, and the resulting onerous peace treaty forced upon Edo upon their defeat. Instead, she attached herself to one of the wandering mercenary bands of masterless Edonian soldiers, their lords slain in the war or otherwise forced to relieve themselves of soldiers, before striking out on her own and wandering around the world, doing favours for money and acting as a freelancer.
The Church of Esbel has paid her along with several others to join the expedition, with Shina's Companion cavalry training a factor in her hiring. She even came with her own horse, reducing the need for the Church to shell out for giving her one.
