/freezes up, slipping to the side almost irretrievably/
manages to recover through some frantic flailing, dropping a book in the process.  She hurriedly picks it up.

"I-it's okay."

Those in the immediate area might hear Ika's voice replaying.

Kaoru, having resolved his earlier conversation with what was hopefully a minimum of awkwardness, moves to rejoin the group, heralded by the whirring sound of his wheelchair. "Hey, everyone, what'd I miss? I'm Kaoru, by the way, if I haven't introduced myself yet."
