A tad late because of an alarm clock issue, Ika finally arrives in front of the gates. She waves goodbye at her parents, who insisted on accompanying her until they reached the gates.

"Take care !" says her worried mother.

She comforts her with the usual words, saying she will watch out for her breath and heartbeat, and avoid needless agitation. But deep in her heart, she can't wait seeing this new school and making new friends.

And with a resolute pace, she heads toward the main group of students.

Gou waves at the newcomer.

Ika is pleasantly surprised someone noticed her. All smiles, she waves back at Gou.

After catching up to him, she simply says :

"Hi !"

Gou, of course, appears to be a girl and speaks like one- at the most, a girl attempting to sound like a boy- for all intents and purposes.
"Heeeeey! You new here, like us?"

Clueless, Ika doesn't notice the "subterfuge". Not that she cares much actually, she is happy enough to speak with someone.

"Well yes I'm new here too. Ah, hem, aren't we all ?"

"I know! The name's Gou Ikari, reporting for duty!"
Gou gives her a thumbs up while leaning on his cane.

Ika answers the thumbs up by raising her palm in a friendly manner.

"Ah, I'm Ika Yaki ! What do you mean by duty ? Do you have some special role here ?"

She is a bit puzzled, probably from over thinking the "duty" part.

"I'm here to welcome people to the Neighbor's Brigade, of course!"

[Nakéen]

"The neighbor's...brigade ? I never heard of it, it sounds like something important..."

It's as if you could see an interrogation mark above Ika's head. She is even more puzzled than before.

"Gou, maybe keep the recruitment for when everyone's settled in?"

"Why, it's the place to go! The Brigade welcomes all men, women and children of all colours! And we have but one purpose!

FRRRRIIIIIIENDSHIP!"
Then Sayako intervenes as Gou is preparing to pose majestically with his cane. Gou falters slightly.
".....fair enough."

[Nakéen]

"Re...recruitment ?"

Ika feels like stepping back a little when Gou's fires of friendship begin burning too brightly.
She answers politely, still confused.

"Oh erm, it seems like a nice place."
