BARK! A Forum Game of Creative Frustration
« on: April 20, 2016, 09:30:47 pm »

When you're a videogame writer, the majority of the work you do is 'barks', random phrases a character says during gameplay. This is notoriously painful and dull work, since having to write about a single action without repeating yourself is a writer's worst nightmare.

Let's give you fine folks a taste of that.

The Rules
1. Everyone counts down from 100.
2. There's a bark, a piece of dialog in a videogame describing something with multiple variations.
3. If you can write a variation of the bark, the number goes down by 10 instead of just 1.
4. You cannot repeat another post or fail to convey the bark; you have to make sure every detail of the bark is conveyed. It also has to make sense in the context of a videogame.
5. If you reach zero, the counter resets and you pick the next bark, as long as it's something that could be in a videogame and happen a lot.

I'll begin.

The bark is: A door is locked and requires an orange key.

"Won't open. I'm going to need an orange key for this."
90.

I'm no locksmith, but I'm pretty sure that an Orange key is the only thing that's going to open this door.

I'm getting a vision from the spirits, a vision that will tell us how to get through this door, the secret to opening this door is orange and key shaped, the spirits said we can figure it out from there.

The protagonist needs to kill Von GenericVillain, and will not shut up about it.

"I still need to find and kill Von GenericVillain! For my village!"
