Goblin only corpse stockpile?
« on: April 08, 2016, 03:57:06 am »

There are usually hundreds of goblin parts after a siege. I used to d-b-d all ground items and wait for the dwarves to carry them away then un-dump their equipments.
Recently I built a minecart auto-dumping system. I thought by changing stockpile settings I could create a goblin corpse only stockpile, but I failed.

It seems refuse stockpiles don't accept sentient beings, and corpse stockpiles don't have options to choose corpse types. I don't want them to throw away dwarf corpses by accident, but if I need to micro-manage the corpses, I could have just used the old d-b-d method.

What do I do now?

Do dwarves dump dwarves into corpse piles?
Mine all get taken straight to the cemetary.

Unless you mean dwarf invader corpses?

Nah, I was not talking about dwarf invaders.

Well, I'm not sure. I know they will carry dwarf corpses to corpse stockpiles if they are not entombed yet, but I don't know if they still do that if there're empty tombs.

If there's an empty coffin primed for burial, they will entomb the dwarf.
Even if you don't have a coffin ready and they drag him to a corpse stockpile, as soon as a primed coffin appears, they will relocate the corpse and entomb it.

Yeah, if they bury the corpses first there won't be a problem.
The stockpile is linked to a minecart which will dump all its contents to a magma pit, so I need to prevent them from collecting wrong corpses.

You could replace the magma pit with an atom smasher, that way even if a dwarf get dumped in the corpse stockpile you will have time to build him a tomb before destroying the other remains.

Fresh corpses are all piled together, including dwarf corpses. So the dumping system should have some safeguard, like dumping onto a mechanised hatch with side access, to recollect corpses which qualify for burial. Burial is high priority, shouldn't take much time.

OK, so a retract bridge. And it will also prevent flying creatures from entering from the pit, two birds one stone.

In my fortresses the dwarven (alcohol poisoned) corpses were always hauled to the corpse stockpile and dumped down the minecart QS chute first, before being hauled to a free coffin, even if said coffin was available before the death took place. I don't know about tombs, though.

The corpse stockpile ought to be divided up so you can separate corpses, as a minimum based on race, but I'd prefer the separation to be based on fortress allegiance instead, perhaps a few categories such as citizen, buriable, non hostile others, and hostile others. 0.40.24 had a problem with certain sapient creatures that did not have any refuse stockpile entries of their own, and so became eligible for all refuse stockpiles that hadn't been primed with block all, and I'd prefer if that wasn't repeated, as refuse stockpile separation was a pain (and won't work when a fortress containing goblin citizens is attacked by goblins).
