Did that fix the lag or the frames? The frames only die on me when a load of particles pop up, lag's a persistent bastard to deal with.
I had framerate drops in Firefox when large (10,00+) snakes died. Didn't have to be on screen, just in the same server (I'm assuming there's multiple servers?). Also issues with lots of particles on screen. And occasional lag drops, also in Firefox. In Chrome lag is only regular for me if there's something downloading in the background. There's still occasional lag, but just occasionally. I have a wired internet connection, no wifi irregularities to deal with. I haven't played the game on a mobile device.

I can't say if the delayed input with the snake following the mouse pointer is actually caused by lag or intentional game design. I assume that delay would be the biggest complain of lag.

In general I'd recommend trying it on Chrome for yourself if you aren't using Chrome already. It was a big improvement for my play experience.

How do the "Top Scorers of the Day" get lengths over 1000 times as long as the longest snake I've seen?

I just managed to encircle the largest snake on the server, about 40k length, as a 3k snake. That's what he gets for picking on a fresh spawn with length 10.

Also I generally play as 'A Hastily Disguised Fish'

Curious... I haven't experienced the lag that others have mentioned. A few bump yes, but they were few and far between.
Maybe the servers are closer to me? I play from central EU with Chrome.

How do the "Top Scorers of the Day" get lengths over 1000 times as long as the longest snake I've seen?
I'm guessing there's a way to submit a false highscore and the server doesn't validate it (well).

Online scoreboards don't seem to put up much resistance for hackers...

Not sure what's the point of having global online scoreboards if they can't be validated.
The game-local top10 scoreboard is nice. But the global scoreboard I generally don't care about.
In any game.

that's what I'm saying tho, doesn't matter the company, the system, the game.  Almost all online scoreboards get hacked.

I wish this game had a spectator mode. It's hypnotising fascinating to watch the interaction between snakes.

I have to say, it's hellishly fun when you get to some ridiculous size like 30000 and then circle around catching an entire ecosystem in your death wrap. You can see the moment when they realize what happened.

81000 size. They keep on going about their business not even knowing that you're closing in. 'That's a big snake, let's go find somewhere else' travel elsewhere, eat some smaller snakes, 'Hey look another big snake, same color as- oh fuck I'm screwed.'

I almost made it to 40k, as Cheesus Crust.

I don't like it much at that size.  Once you get past 15k or so it starts to become impossible to really play, you almost have to go oroboros/prison style and just circle because anyone who even kind of tries is going to kill you.  I stayed around the edges and did a sort of baleen whale thing where I made giant loops in areas where there were some worms on the radar, and when the loop was closed I'd look in to see if I'd caught anything.

I really like the previously mentioned noose thing.  It's basically impossible to outplay and there's something cold-blooded about choking them out while you swim away.  They know there's no hope.  I don't think I've ever seen somebody last more than two rounds, and most kill themselves as soon as they realize what's happening.  Fucking merciless.

Interestingly enough, they removed the global top score.

I actually don't have much issue with people trying to kill me at that size. pvp is practically a game of jukes and chicken, if someone tries to gank another snake they run the risk of ganking themselves if the target manages to keep pace with them or outrun them. The larger you get the more vision you have and the harder it is for small snakes to surprise you, and big snakes are big and obvious to spot. If I think someone is trying to make a beeline for blocking my way I just speed up and either race along side them or turn away to another direction.

Most of my deaths at that scale of size is my own mistakes and bad decisions.
