Reclaiming Noneplayer fortresses?
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:19:29 pm »

Has anyone else done this? I'm asking because I noticed that it was totally possible to Reclaim fortresses that had previously been generated by the world generator. I don't even know if this is a new feature or something I just never noticed before... if it's something that has always been here I will feel quite foolish.

It has been there for ages, literally.
I'm currently playing an reclaimed fortress.

Well as stated reclaiming forts that aren't made by the player is something I just never noticed somehow. Suppose everyone has there completely braindead moments though.

I think it was new in the 0.40 series.  Whatever the big update was that also had multi-tile trees and NPC conversations (in a time before time, I killed me).

I'm currently reclaiming a world-gen fort that was allegedly destroyed by a hydra, but is currently full to the brim with elf zombies.

I've only reclaimed one non-player fortress, more out of curiosity than anything else. It was basically a central ramp going down several levels with a small outpost at the entrace. Not a lot (former residents stayed there like 5 years) but it's nice to already have a central ramp (I loved the design they used for it as well).

You might discover all sorts of fun down there. Whole stores of armor, weapons, and meltables (like a couple hundred anvils). There's some wonky procedurally generated bedroom areas too. And usually some food. It's awesome, but too bad you start at 50 fps...
