Just throwing it out here, but wouldn't trade/economic embargoes be a way to crack down on tax havens?
You'd be punishing the wrong people.

And the only people who can call an embargo would lose access to their secret accounts. If something comes of this, it probably isn't going to come from the top.

You are saying that the US president and congressional leadership are on the take?

Wouldn't that have come out already if they were? You'd think that would be top news.

I no longer trust anyone at this point. If they aren't hiding money themselves, they're probably connected to someone who is. And they've said that there are US people involved, they've just not released that part of the information yet.

I'm surprised no Americans have been implicated yet.

There are lots of names that haven't been released yet. As PTTG mentioned in another thread, it's interesting that they haven't released the names of any American politicians yet.

I think I saw an US businessman or two, in the wiki's list, but yes, it's interesting that no American names have been implicated yet.

Time has an optimistic interpretation of the release. I, too, hope that this is the beginning of an uprising.

Belgium's finance minister has announced the creation of a task force at the finance ministry to investigate the ~700 Belgians named in the Panama Papers. Interestingly, last year a special law called the "Caiman Tax" was created to allow the taxing of money spirited away is tax havens. It's going to be nice to see it in application.

I wonder where that information is found or maybe just not publicly released yet, because I can't find any list with Belgians in it.

Or even someone associated with the Clintons or are close to them.

This is one of those unpredictable bombshell moments that could completely alter the trajectory of the election.

Not sure why the Clintons would need such a thing when they have their Foundation.

Also, the US-Panama relations may partially be the reason why no US names have been released yet http://eoinhiggins.com/no-us-names-in-panama-papers-leak-why-not/ , but theres apparently a tweet saying semi-cryptically 'just wait for what's coming next', so, there could be some.

Especially given that there were what, 700 belgians on the list? I'd be surprised if there were absolutely no Americans on there.

Theres already at least one American named or at least implicated by association: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_named_in_the_Panama_Papers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianna_Olszewski

Well it wasn't the Panamanians who leaked the papers, it was some German journalist I thought?

I think the Icelandic need to look into a governmental instrument developed by the French to dissuade corruption. It could use some updating, I suppose.
