Chapter 2: First Year of RiverdaleSummer heat blankets the forest and four new migrants join Riverdale.
First is
Tirist `Gwolfski’ Crestedrelics who proceeds to go fishing at the stream to the south.
`Gwolfski' Zimzaneg, "`Gwolfski' Crestedrelics", Fishery Worker
"Why are they so fixated on these baubles?"
Within the last season, he felt pleasure near a fine Seat. He felt pleasure near a fine Table.
He is married to Mistem Toolfogs and has two children: Uvash Finderschannels and Mafol Vesseldrunken. He is the son of Unib Partneredmined and Olin Shielddents. He is a worshipper of Zekrim, a worshipper of Osmosp Islandcanyon the Dutiful Barbarian and a dubious worshipper of Judgefurs the Large Tulips. He is an apprentice under Yemeni Luckhailed.
He is a citizen of The Ordered Diamonds. He is a member of Hallflings. He is a former member of The Pleated Cloisters. He is a former member of The Strong Book. He arrived at Igerisos on the 2nd of Galena in the year 199.
He is seventy-six years old, born on the 3rd of Opal in the year 123.
He is fat. His sideburns are clean-shaven. His very long moustache is arranged in double braids. His very long beard is arranged in double braids. His very long hair is braided. He has a very round chin. His somewhat narrow ears have large hanging lobes. His nose is short. His dark tan skin is wrinkled. His hair is raw umber. His eyes are aquamarine.
He is susceptible to disease, weak and slow to heal.
`Gwolfski' Zimzaneg likes dolomite, silver, red diamond, alder wood, green glass, tigerfish tooth, statues, menacing spikes, ducks for their quacks and hyena men for their coordinated hunting. When possible, he prefers to consume kea, cow cheese, single-grain wheat beer and hide root seeds. He absolutely detests mussels.
He has a great sense of empathy, very good creativity and willpower, but he has a meager ability with social relationships, little linguistic ability, a poor memory and poor spatial senses.
Like others in his culture, he holds craftsdwarfship to be of the highest ideals and celebrates talented artisans and their masterworks, greatly prizes loyalty, values family greatly, sees friendship as one of the finer things in life, greatly respects artists and their works, really respects those that take the time to master a skill, deeply respects those that work hard at their labors, believes that honesty is a high ideal, finds merrymaking and partying worthwhile activities, values cooperation, respects fair-dealing and fair-play, values martial prowess, values leisure time, respects commerce, values knowledge and finds nature somewhat disturbing. He personally has a negative view of those who exercise power over others and respects the law. He dreams of crafting a masterwork someday.
He has little time for forgiveness and will generally seek retribution. He can be very happy and optimistic. He has an active imagination. He tends to be a little tight with resources when working on projects. He finds helping others emotionally rewarding. He often acts with compassion. He isn't particularly ambitious. He doesn't focus on material goods. He likes to keep things practical, without delving too deeply into the abstract. He exhales slowly and deliberately when he starts getting bored. He whispers when he's nervous. He needs alcohol to get through the working day.
Overall, Gwolfski is somewhat focused with satisfied needs. He is not distracted after being away from people. He is not distracted after being unoccupied. He is not distracted after doing nothing creative. He is not distracted after leading an unexciting life. He is not distracted after being kept from alcohol. He is not distracted after a lack of decent meals. He is not distracted after being unable to fight. He is not distracted after a lack of trouble-making. He is not distracted after being unable to argue. He is not distracted after being unable to be extravagant. He is not distracted after not learning anything. He is not distracted after being unable to help anybody. He is not distracted after being unable to make merry. He is unfettered after admiring art. He is not distracted after being unable to practice a craft. He is not distracted after being away from family. He is not distracted after being away from friends. He is not distracted after being unable to practice a martial art. He is not distracted after being unable to practice a skill. He is not distracted after being unable to take it easy. He is not distracted after being unable to pray to Zekrim. He is not distracted after being unable to pray to Osmosp Islandcanyon the Dutiful Barbarian.
A short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry.
Gwolfski demands the immediate building of a Fishery as the raw mussels he gathered will start rotting. Captain Obok appeased Gwolfski with the beginning construction of the Fisher Wharf which will serve both as the fisherman’s guild, guard room, and bridge over the stream with walls and safety grates.
However, a cloud of devilish smoke began to drift from the haunted swamp, The Smeared Goo. Gwolfski was enveloped by this smoke but resulted in no apparent ailment (
how disappointing thought Captain Obok).
Nevertheless, Gwolfski refused to continue to fishing and instead wants to practice his war hammer skills when the barracks are ready. Captain Obok grins, "Welcome Soldier `Gwolfski' Crestedrelics to the ranks of the Soldier of Commerce."
Fishing has been temporarily forbidden despite the devilish smoke having no apparent ill-effects. The construction of the Fisher Wharf will continue someday.
The second to arrive is Mistem Toolfogs, wife of Gwolfski. She immediately joins the Militia of the Woods.
Farmer Lor Valedaggers is the third new arrival and helps build the Farm House building next to the Brewer House. It has 3 farm plots for above ground plants, and 3 farm plots for underground plants. There will be two farmer’s workshops, querns and screw presses. The second floor will be stockpile for the plants, fruits, and millable food. The third floor will be bedrooms for the farmers.
Inod Craftvirgin[/b] is the fourth arrival and also joins the Soldier of Commerce. With these bolster in membership of the Soldier of Commerce, the Trade Depot is built before autumn. The Trade Depot’s protection will be the responsibility of the Soldier of Commerce. Walls are hastily constructed around the the trade depot.
Autumn, and a caravan from Sheddoren has arrived. The Liaison Zutthan Gegetuzo reports, "the world is the same as ever."
Captain and Trader Obok requested pig leather, iron and steel bars, anvils, breeding pigs, dwarven flour and sugar and syrup, garnerite stones, nickel cages, leather bags, sand bags, glass, fire clay, and sheets. Captain Obok procured minor items and extra food and drinks.
The merchants have left, but the Liaison Zutthan remains in Riverdale.
Four new migrants also arrived this autumn.
Squire Zuntir Chamberround is a member of Paladins of Learning with his wife Carpenter Unib Riddledoar.
Deputy Etur Ragnature is a member of Sheriff of Riverdale. And Mason Ablel Fountaintunneled is a mason citizen of Riverdale.
With all these extra hands, The Misty Foot inn construction continues. The inn is designated for the citizens of Riverdale only. Gwolfski volunteers to be its tavern keeper once the Soldiers of Commerce have built their barracks and have their uniforms ready. The basement of Misty Foot inn will have a double kitchen with plenty of food preparation stockpiles. The first floor is a large dance floor common area, the second and third floor will have dining area and eight bedrooms on each level.
The gabbro stones are depleted by late autumn, so the miners began to delve deeper in search for more stones, and also for magma.
They struck microcline, limestone (flux), and kaolinite (clay) within five levels below. Stone workshops are setup in this new stone quarry level. To increase building materials, Captain Obok approved the use of both flux and clay for construction blocks.
Winter arrives, and clouds of devilish smoke continue to annoy for it even forms on the roof of the Wagon House and on the third floor construction of the Misty Foot inn. This smoke is mostly ignored nowadays.
The paladins and clerics appreciate the use of limestones when the miners started building the Miner of Brell building. They note that use of such economic stones for buildings just incrementally increased the quality expectations of future buildings.
