I'm busy but I will post something for this anyway:

Investigate about the possible candidates for the position of Lash Master. Probably the ones that worked for the previous Lash master.

I'm still in favour of the public event to select the candidates for the Archmages. If Phineas comes, he will get his ass fried by all kinds of magic that exist.

I propose something different for Lee: he helps us to evaluate possible candidates during the contest, and provides advice, then he can leave. I don't like the fact that he could basically sink us to the bottom by putting archmages that answer to him, or are too inept to do well their job.

We may want to think about sending a letter to Rubricon explaining introducing ourselves as the Guild Master, and telling him about our plans to expand to Port Lionfish, and that as an investor of the Guild, we would expect his help.

I'd like to leave Akira in charge, she is basically family. About that letter to get us tax-free, I'd say yes. It's corruption, but we have done far worse things by now. I'd hire the three pilots, with some conditions: that Lorenzo is first tested and accompanied by someone else in his first flights, to ensure he does business the right way, and that the goblins do non-human trade routes.

Another things I'd like to consider:

-Maybe by going with our castrated inquisitor and our apprentice who lacks a leg to that nymph she could help them to regenerate some way.
-We could use the Alpha Dark Mage to disseminate the rumour about the Maeris killing the elder Marlowes, and thus get the other dark mages against Maeris.

The Archmages, taken together, only get 1 vote.  While appointing them is prestigious just dropping a few into zones and other offices totally out rank them.  Meanwhile having powerful or skilled archmages makes for good press.

Seconding that we need a new lashmaster asap.

Agree to the deal with the Archmage Lee, provided anyone appointed is a powerful or highly skilled/crafty mage.  These are not to be political appointments, we need practical mages/mentors.  We could hold the public displays still and have a three judge panel of Lee, us and someone else.  We support all of Lee's picks for archmage winners and he supports ours for Zone administrators.

We should consider planning attending a personal trade trip after the meeting.  On this trip we will take the three new but inexperienced ship masters with us so we can evaluate them ourselves.  Make the changes for the tax-free status before the meeting but put off hiring them until we can personally mentor them on a trip.

Having rubicon as a stick to allow us to wedge into Port Lionfish is well and good, but we need something substantial to offer in order to be successful.  I am thinking new types of ships that can be used in intercontinental and shoreline trade.  The obvious are the ability to lift entire normal trade ships up above the water or dive down when there are emergencies like pirates, monsters or storms or to jump over sandbars and navigation hazards.  We should consult with the airship crafter to see what kind of crazy innovations we might be able to offer.  Getting less expensive mercenary nature mages as guards for the merchant fleets might also be an interesting idea.  We could train lots of peasants to be marginal mage-guards.

(Holy crap. RNGesus loves Dougpo)

2334th Year of Man, 5th Month, 22nd Day:

Monday

"Very well Lee. You can pick the Archmages... on the condition that you choose people actually skilled in their craft and don't just make the appointments for political reasons."

You pause for a second, but speak again before the human can respond. "How about this. You arrange tryouts for several candidates for each position, and the judges will be yourself, myself, and Archmage Ren. Assuming they preform to the level of an Archmage, I will vote for whoever you do."

Lee considers the proposal for some time, and you watch the gears grind in his head with a grin. You can tell he likes what you say, but can't stand the fact that there is common ground between himself and a wretched creature such as you. "I agree. The candidates need skill, and running practical magic tests would lend integrity to the appointment process. We shall do as you propose for most of the candidates, but I request the privilige to directly name one."

The Archmage folds his hands, and considers his next words carefully. "There is somebody from my homeland I am considering for the position of either Air or Druid Archmage. Their magical skill far surpasses my own, and they are well connected in terms of politics. If they are intrested, I will arrange their admitance to the guild, and appoint them without a tryout - they might find such a procedure to be demeaning. I will not say more, as I am not permitted to even speak of their existence to... somebody like you..."

---

You pour Akirya a glass of wine as you consider her proposal, before gesturing to a golem to fetch you a pen and parchment. "I'll raise the number of Tax Exempt Merchants we can employ from five to seven. I'd like to take the pilots you suggested out on trial runs before agreeing to hire them though."

"And what of me taking over business operations?" She asks, cranking up her charm and adjusting her hair.

"Akirya," you smile back, "you are like family to me. You and your husband, in an ideal world, would run my business while I run the guild. But there are many important guild posts left unfilled, so I might need you or Lenny to help out at Balloon Point. Hopefully I'll know soon."

"Fair enough," she replies before downing the wine you just poured her in a single impolite gulp while you recieve your writing utensils, quickly jot out the decree she requested, and stamp it with the seal of the Guild Master. Before leaving, Akirya promises to let the pilots she recommended know that they should expect invitations to partake in trial runs.

2334th Year of Man, 5th Month, 23rd Day:

Tuesday

You get to headquarters early, and visit the offices of the Lash Master to inform the staff that you are considering filling the position by promoting from within, and informing them that you will be accepting interviews in your office all day.

Several eager candidates follow you back up to your office, and you spend the morning getting to know the lot of them.

Vicallen Star is a human ice mage originally from Titan Rock, but moved to North Bank City as a boy where he fell into mercenary business before getting involved with the guild. Vicallen has a few years experience working for the Lash Master, and seems confident he can fill the role. You know that Vicallen has ties to your friend Greent, and was one of the few guild members in on Chasity's plan to take Roe River County from the Kinkaids. Vicallen claims that he hasn't been in touch with Greent, as he fears his correspondences might get intercepted by Phineas and his raiders.

Refiara the Seducer is a truly ancient dwarf who famously ran the human aligned city state of King's Hand until she was ousted by the first King Emmit for siding with those who opposed his coup. In her youth, Refiara could use her charms to get almost anything out of anybody, and can still be very convincing at times. She is vaguely aware that bad blood exists between Count Marlowe and the new Duke, and cliams to understand where your loyalties lie. In the interview she goes so far as to confess that her holds a long standing grudge against Rubricon's bloodline, and hopes to use the position to undermine the prince's position and influence within the guild.

Offnaughtus Prime is an eight foot tall humanoid construct made of emerald and enchanted to be nearly impervious to most forms of magical damage nature mages can inflict. Offnaughtus has been the chief enforcer to four Lash Masters over a ninety year span, and was Archmage of Earth for a record setting 120 years prior to that. Few know his personal history before that, but during the interview he claims to be a thousand year old Savannah Orc Enchanter who created his present body in an as-of-yet successful bid for immortality. You don't find his social skills all that impressive compared to the other candidates, but he is almost universally respected (and feared) by everybody at headquarters, and offers to tutor you in long forgotten Savannah Orc enchantment techniques should you give him a promotion.

With the interviews done, you consider your other options. As the Lash Master is more or less the Guild Master's right hand, it is the one position where nobody will complain if the guild master fills it by appointing an obvious friend or underling - nepotism, for this particular post at least, is almost expected, and there are several people whom are both loyal to you and likely possess the skills required to thrive as lash master.

Both the Newmans come to mind, as there are few if any people you put more trust in. Both have picked up a good set of skills and contacts while working for you, and as independent balloonists prior to that. Akirya possesses an intimidating authoritative presence, is a very skilled bookkeeper, and as a pure-blooded human with ties to the crime lords of the Rising Isles, would be ideal for dealing with officers and investors who may not wish to work with a dwarf. Lenny is the most talented negotiator you know, and is great at independently working outside of the box while still respecting your interests. Having either around headquarters risks exposure, however, and either relationship could be scandalous should it get out; Most guild officers know and accept that you are something of a playboy, but people from the Rising Isles might take offense to the fact that a dwarf is defiling a creature as pure and human as Akirya, and after hearing about what Rubricon did to Chasity's father you don't think it is wise to be flaunting your male lovers while on human lands - As a foreigner and commoner respectively, neither you nor Lenny have so much as the right to a trial should some highborn decide to lop your heads off on sodomy charges.

A veteran of high stakes games of intrigue that comes with the territory of being a female drow of good birth, your pilot 'Sunburn' is also an acceptable pick, especially if you intend to employ underhanded tactics to pursue your agenda, or fear that others might intend to use the various arts of intrigue against you.

Although the office you seek to fill is a bit more demanding of a job than secretary to the Turf Master of the IhZ, your friend Jourem Uris has been your right hand man at headquarters since the Marlowe twins first sent you back to Balloon Point, and you see no reason why he might not work out well as your Lash Master. He has also developed ties to the criminal element in Silver County and several dwarven city states, which may be of use to you.

Your other three key underlings from your time running the IhZ also have some potential for the role as well. Slant is blindly loyal to you and utterly terrifying to those who cross her, but might need help performing some of the duties of her office if made Lash Master. Mr. Milton's divine magic makes him great at controlling and manipulating others, but it is also blatantly illegal and would reflect poorly on you if you gave him such a public position. Soren is well qualified for the job, but you can see his inherently lawful nature becoming an impediment to him pushing your agenda, and as such you think he is a better fit to take your old job.

After lunch, you are weighing your options on the matter of Lash Master, and perhaps some of the other offices as well, when you receive a summons from Duke Emmit that is both urgent and condescendingly worded. He wants you at Cleanriver Castle by sundown. As Rubricon is one of the last people you want to piss off right now, and you had been planning on writing him a letter of introduction anyway, you decide to set off at once.

Nobody can agree on the official name of the river that cuts through the central counties of Redleaf Duchy. Most maps call it the Silver River, but you have also seen it referred to as the Kinkaid River, Rothwell River, North Roe River, King's River, and Sea Dragon's River. Once it passes through the magically purifying divine marshes that sit on the eastern border of Silver County, however, it is universally called the Clean River. The castle that serves as the Duchy's seat of power sits just below the marshes, and by law is the first man-made structure the river passes once it has been cleaned. Although often overlooked next to the nearby wonders of Monument Palace, Vanity Beach, and the Six Shrines of the Gulf Dynasty, Cleanriver Castle is itself a triumph of architecture in its own right; It straddles the river, serving as a luxurious home, impenetrable fortress, and private crossing for the duke and his family. Although human history is by no means your area of expertise, you still can't help but admire the building as you land in the courtyard where Rubricon greets you.

The prince opens the meeting by reminding you that he is the largest individual shareholder in the guild, and suggesting that as Chasity's husband he now controls her little investment group as well. "In short, I own you."

Sucking in your distaste for the man, you spend a good thirty minutes groveling and professing your loyalty, before bringing up guild interests. You suggest bringing Port Lionfish under guild control, and then sticking it to the Tradewind Guilds by manufacturing proper airships.

"We have had the technology to revolutionize the shipping industry for almost a century now. It has just been fear of the coastal guilds and the prohibitive investment costs required keeping us from putting it into practice, my lord. You could go down in history as the man who killed the concept of the sailor..."

Rubricon considers your proposal, before shaking his head. "My prophetic cousin tells me that cunt Maeris Riverland is trying to build a coalition out of all the rivals of the Tradewind Guilds. Once that happens, the Guild Masters of the Sailors and Shipwights will demand even more crown support to wipe her off the map, so we have to play nice for now... that said, I like the idea. I want a proper plan to fuck the seas and dominate the skies out of you by the time I'm finished mopping up my in-laws."

He pauses, "Which brings me to the point of our meeting. My prophet tells me that you will serve me loyally, and that I can trust you. So I will have you handle a few issues for me. There are two prophecies that disturb me. The first states that in several weeks time, Maeris and the Kinkaids will send a whole bunch of Orcs to drive me out of the castle through her summoning circle, which is hidden somewhere around here. The second prophecy states that the same wicked woman is in league with the Jade Lady Housebreakers, who will soon kidnap my wife."

It is suddenly very hard not to laugh. You had no clue Rubricon was such a fool to be played by a false prophet. First and foremost, you are fairly sure that you don't plan on serving him loyally, and his other two predictions are easily debunked by common sense. Anybody who knows the first thing about Dark Magic understands that you can not summon beings from your own realm at the circle, and those who follow current events know that the Jade Lady Housebreakers have never kidnapped, in spite of ample opportunity to do so.

"How would you have me solve this, my lord?" You barely manage to ask with a straight face.

The Prince grins, and puts a hand encumbered by heavy gold rings on your shoulder. "I understand you are one of the best interrogators in the Duchy, and a Dark Mage to boot. My wife is bound in the Dungeon now because she refuses to tell me where her mother's dark magic workstations are hidden. You are to make her talk, and then help me disarm Maeris' summoning circle."

You nod. You know Chasity's mother practices at least some dark magic, so hopefully you can get the prince results. "And the kidnapping plot?"

"When you are finished, take her to that estate you keep in the Mountains. If you keep it quiet the Housebreakers will not be able to find her. You can also use her as leverage against the Marlowes, they are both crazy for her. I own you, and don't let Horace convince you otherwise just because your guild headquarters is in his County."

It takes everything you have not to beam with happiness. Assuming Chasity knows where to find mommy's Wizlab, she is as good as free.

---

The interrogation goes as well as you could have possibly expected. Chasity, who appears to be bruised and malnourished, as well as nursing a broken arm, first appears dejected, assuming you have defected to the Prince's side. At first you have to play the role of harsh interrogator, as one of the prince's exotic mercenaries is in the room, but after Chasity refuses to talk for awhile, you send the beast-man away to fetch you a dull longsword with which to torture her.

Once the merc leaves, you soften your tone and explain the situation, and luckily you are able to convince her to believe you before the Prince's goon returns. Chasity tells you how to find the secret switch that reveals the entrance to the hidden chamber where Maeris kept her dark equipment.

---

The Prince's goons are a superstitious bunch, and unwilling to follow you into a place where Dark Magic is preformed, so you enter alone. Inside you find a Summoning Circle, Projection Stage, and Reanimation Table, as well as a vast collection of books, many written in languages you can't even begin to comprehend, on six large shelves.

You could just destroy the summoning circle and be done with it, but you have several other options as well. First and foremonst, you could lie to Rubricon and tell him the deed is done. Although you seriously doubt Maeris can send an orcish army through it, she could contract demons to pop out from the circle and do her dirty work instead - you know the Bonedusts keep a fairly nasty Balrog in their back pocket. Then again, if you want to ensure the continued rise of the Chasity Club, it might be unwise to bring about the Prince's defeat until Chasity's siblings have been dealt with.

Likewise you could just as easily mess with Maeris as you can the Prince. The circle is set up in such a way that it can be easily moved, and is small enough to fit in your balloon. You could exploit this to set up some sort of nasty surprise for whatever the Bonedusts eventually decide to send through.

Lastly, it looks as if Maeris has a good handful of messages waiting on her projection stage. You should be able to access these, although doing so might alert some of her demonic contacts to the fact that somebody is using the rebel duchesses' equipment.

Maeris' book collection is too big to move in its entirety. If you want it, you would have to convince the prince to allow you to return with a couple of clay constructs and another piloted balloon or two.

---

A bit concerned for your friend's health, you make a pit stop in the marshes on the way back to visit Avayilin. Although her magic is not potent enough to replace missing body parts without completely transmuting the subject into a new state of being, she is more than skilled enough as a healer to fix Chasity up.

The Nymph is thrilled to see you, even more thrilled to see Chasity, but less so when you inform her that the human is a friend in need of aid and not an offering to be polymorphed. Still, Avayilin leads Chasity to the sacred pool she prefers to work her magic at, and playfully tosses your friend in before getting to work clearing bruises and mending bone. She renders Chasity unconscious first, allowing you to have a private discussion with Avayilin as she does her thing.

You mention your promotion, and your desire to expand your business. It is a bit soon since your last run on her behalf to expect Avayilin to have a whole balloon load of magical herbs, but you ask anyway, and it does turn out she could send you to the goblins with a partial load. This works out if you intend to test all three potential new hires at once, as people are heavy and take up space, but you are not sure if that is the best means of evaluation. Ballooning is typically a solo activity, and frankly you are not entirely sure if judging pilots in a group environment is fair.

As she wraps up her work on Chasity, Avayilin mentions that a neighboring marsh spirit, a Dryad named Fentina, might be willing to leave the sacred lands and take up work at the guild if offered an important enough position. Although she is usually protective of your business and not keen on helping you contact other beings in the marshes, Avayilin hopes to muscle in on Fentina's land if she leaves to work for you. The Nymph allows you a good thirty seconds to consider the possibility, before ordering you to disrobe and join her in the pool.

---

You don't make it back home until just before midnight, as Avayilin insists that Chasity must be kept unconscious and out of the skies for a spell following the magic preformed upon her. You are quite sure her claim is bullshit, but find her offer to enjoy a marathon session of trying new herbs and making love to a beautiful holy being in the meantime appealing enough to not call her on it.

Since you return late, nobody but your constructed servants greet you upon your return. You escort Chasity to an empty bedroom to spend the night, instruct a servant to bring her whatever she might request but not to let her leave without your blessing, and march to your bedroom, pondering the girl's role moving forward.

Although she is your friend, Chasity serves as major leverage over both the Prince and the Marlowes, and perhaps even Maeris as well. It might be in your best interests to restrict her movements and activities to ensure her safety. It it also worth considering keeping her presence at Godspike Peak a secret; You know the Jade Lady robbers hit your estate's previous owners, so on the off chance the prophecy is not bullshit, she is no safer with you than she is with her husband... from the kidnappers at least. You also wouldn't put it past the Marlowes to do something stupid upon learning the Prince no longer has any real leverage over them, and as despicable as the man is, he is still the guild's best hope of expanding at the present.

Arriving in your room, you spot both the Newmans sleeping in your bed, which reminds you that pilots drop in and out of your home on a regular basis. Unless you keep Chasity locked in a room or convince her to adopt some secret identity, word of her presence here will get out eventually. Deciding to sleep on the Chasity situation, you take a final drag on your pipe before extinguishing it and flopping down between the two humans in your bed and falling asleep with an arm draped across each of their chests.

Still busy but this deserves a post:

Agree to Lee's proposal. Thay mysterious figure could be the Air Archmage. I want to leave the Druid open in case we put that Dryad there.

Designations:
-Lash Master: Jourem Uris our friend with criminal ties.
-Ironhearth Zone: Soren the castrated inquisitor.
-Designate Akirya as the one in charge of our business. We need someone we can trust, and I'd rather not make anything public with her.

Dark mage Workstations:
-Check the Projection Stage. We are just curious, but if we get some useful information, it would be better.
-Don't tamper with the circle. We may want to get rid of Rubricon in the future, and Maeris would be the perfect excuse. Besides, if her demons know that we know, she would be less likely to attempt anything.
-About the books, we are too busy being guild master and being a playboy to read stuff, even less about languages that we don't understand. But, if we get something useful about dark magic there, there would be no problem in taking it.

Give Lorenzo the untested negotiator his first chance to do business with that partial herb load. We are just testing him and so we give him a partial load. The goblins are probably fine.

Dealing with Chastity: she will adopt a lowborn identity and pose as a troublesome domestic employee from Rubricon that we are now taking as an apprentice. We also need to talk about how her plan is working and what does she know about, and share what we know.

Also:

He pauses, "Which brings me to the point of our meeting. My prophet tells me that you will serve me loyally, and that I can trust you."

This is exactly why I wanted to be on Denzel's side as Maeris.

2334th Year of Man, 5th Month, 22nd Day:

Monday

You agree to Lee's proposal, and to your mild surprise, he actually shakes you hand and wonders aloud why the gods could be so cruel as to allow somebody of your wisdom to be born a dwarf.

2334th Year of Man, 5th Month, 23rd Day:

Tuesday

Disgusted at Rubricon's mistreatment of Chasity, you decide that you will leave Maeris' summoning circle intact. If she wants to use the circle to hurt the prince, you wont stop her, even if his death at this time would be less than ideal the guild.

That said, you have no qualms prying in the Duchess' busniess either, and with a bit of effort you manage to gently easy some messages that have been stored on the stage. The vast majority of what you get is bunch of desperate messages from demons trying to get in touch with Maeris shortly after her husband's death; Apparently the Bonedusts are anchored by a demonic soul cleaning operation largely composed of ascended family members, and Maeris is the direct descendant of the Bonedust branch most involved in this. You also get a few messages sent around the same time by a Sucubus, wondering why Maeris cut off the curses she was providing.

You learn enough to help an Augur get you the Hex Signs of the Bonedust Demons, but the Sucubus' messages are too brief to glean much identifying information off of.

The last message stored on the stage was only sent last week. Bringing it to play, a strange fungal being appears on the stage and introduces itself as Kanisswo, the servant of one of the demons Maeris does business with. You find this odd; generally only the head of a demonic organization contacts the mortals, but the message itself sheds some light on the circumstances.

"I... Hope that this is the right stage to reach you at. You need to listen carefully - Tetha is being strongarmed by a being called Immonoux... Your daughters visions and fate have served Immonoux's purposes for some time now. I don't know who or what exactly Immonoux is, but she just sent demons to beat us into submission. You cannot trust my mistress anymore - they intend to use her to destroy all members of Fortune's family not related to the prophecy at the big Current Castle Feast, and will kill her if she fails. You should skip it, or avoid my mistress if you do attend."

You don't have the foggiest idea what is being talked about. Fortune is Chasity's younger sister, a sheltered rarely seen in public; Chasity told you once the girl is blind, and regularly tormented by hauntingly accurate prophecies of disaster. Current Castle, the headquarters of the particularly nasty group of demon worshiping orcs who bred your underling Mr. Milton. To reach it from human lands without a boat or Balloon would require either traveling through the Ironheart Mountains and Goblin Lands, or slogging through the deep jungles - a journey of about a month either way. The names Tetha and Immonoux mean nothing to you, but they both sound distinctly drowish, so you guess they are demons or deep deities.

Your intuition kicks in here. If somebody is exploiting prophetic vision and using it against Maeris, and a questionable prophecy just made Prince Rubricon hand over his most important piece of leverage to you, could it mean that this Immonoux has interests that align with yours... for the moment at least? The fact that she is interested in killing Fortune's family, which includes Chasity, does not give you much comfort.

You find yourself too consumed by Kanisswo's warning to bother with the Duchess's books, and find it hard to think about anything else until you have Chasity in your balloon and it dawns on you that she could use some medical attention.

---

2334th Year of Man, 5th Month, 24th Day:

Wedensday

Akirya briefly wakes her bedmates before sunrise, as she has to move some coin from Goblin Lands to Six-Shrines by the end of the day and her balloon is not as fast as yours, but neither you nor Lenny are in the mood to do anything more than kiss her goodbye and get back to sleep. The boys wake you both up sometime later, demanding you have the servants draw them a warm bath. Several minutes later, you and Lenny wind up talking business and eating breakfast while supervising the children in the tub.

Lenny, as it turns out, is somewhat annoyed at his wife's suggestion to make him Coin Runner; He would rather negotiate deals than haul coins for everybody else. With that in mind, he asks you for the post of Customs Master so that he may negotiate contracts for the entirety of the guild's 15 strong shipping fleet. Lowering his voice, he confesses that the main reason he wants the post is so that he can move the boys to the city as Blake is only a month and a half away from his seventh birthday, at which point he is eligible under guild bylaws to begin an apprenticeship.

"I was hoping you might use your pull to arrange for him to study directly under an Archmage." He admits.

You tell him you will consider it, and express your concern about what might happen should your relationship become public. Lenny brushes you off by assuring you that Sylvester's death was only political, and Rubricon couldn't give a damn one way or the other about Sodomy. "I had a fling with his steward at the board meeting six years back. Let us use his royal suite while he was busy. It turns out he goes out of his way to spoil the people who inflate is ego and put up with his abuse."

This does not do too much to reassure you; Lenny, like most guild Balloonists, views the Prince as something of a hero for doing away with the wicked duke who sought to put the balloons out of business with his road into the mountains. Lenny quickly perceives that something he said doesn't quite gel with you, and falls silent. Deciding that any chance you had of having a romp with him in the tub after the kids finished up just died, you bid him good day and head to check on Chasity.

Your new charge is enjoying a breakfast in bed when you arrive, and seems to already be back to her old self. Chasity's public reputation is that of coldhearted, emotionless, and cuthroat woman who puts her ambition above all else, and although there is an element of truth to that, you know that she can be affable, funny, and even downright sweet when among her closest friends. She casually grills you on the situation, while nursing a cup of tea and occasionally following up something you say with a clever joke or one liner.

After coming to terms with the situation, Chasity falls silent for a few minutes to weigh her options, before speaking again. "Alright. I don't think our situation is bad... per say... but it does require some finesse. We need to make sure we are in a strong enough position to deal with my mother, the Kinkaids, and the Orcs they will bring, without crown support, before doing away with Prince Rube. If he is dead, and the rest of my family are outlaw rebels, I'm duchess by default."

Chasity looks you over before continuing, "I'm going to need some time to work out the details. Meanwhile, I'm going to need a few things from you. First I want you to keep sucking up to Rubricon - it will likely fall to you to kill him when the time is right, and you can direct him towards acting in our interests in the meantime. Next, I need you to reassure Archmage Lee that I am safe, and intend to annul my marriage in a murderous fashion at the soonest convenience - I'm sure my kidnap tied the hands of our friends from overseas. Lastly we need to come up with an identity that lets me move freely around your home without letting everybody know I'm here."

You explain that you are working on the identity already. The easiest thing to do would be to pass her off as an apprentice - most of them are around her age. Your actual apprentices would have to help keep the secret; As a rule, you only take apprentices who already have at least some entry skill in air and/or dark magic, and there would be no hiding her complete lack of talent from her supposed peers. The Newmans might also figure something is amiss with Chasity in time, but the only other people who are both regularly present at your home and aware of your apprenticeship policies are the golems.

Chasity informs you that she will be fine cooped up in the suite you provided her for awhile if you need time to work things out, and offers you her thanks for saving her before you leave for work.

---

Your first order of business is to call both Jourem Urisn and Offnaughtus Prime into your office, and inform them that they are the final two candidates for the Lash Master position. The construct starts to plead his case, but Rascal cuts him off, informing you that he thinks his 'unique contacts' could be better leveraged from the post of Customs Master anyway.

Instinctively you reach for your pipe and frown. Both your oldest friend and your boyfriend want one of the guild's highest offices, and you cannot give it to both of them.

---

Soren is called in next, and presented a letter promoting him to the post of IhZ Master. A smile spreads across the old eunuch's face, and he offers you his heartfelt thanks.

While he is present, you decide to take advantage of his training as an inquisitor and ask him what he knows of Tetha and Immonoux. Soren explains that Tetha is a drow who helped early man fight the Grey Orcs before ascending to divinity after drinking from a cup she correctly predicted was poisoned, but that the inquisition has little knowledge of her present plans or whereabouts.

Immonoux is also an ascended Drow, but is thought to be far more ancient and powerful. Most historians agree that she was one of the evil queens who persecuted the surface colonies, but beyond that little of her mortal life is known. As a Deity, she is a concubine to the Patron Diety of the Orcish Clan Shark, and likely plays a large role in both mortal and divine orcish politics, but most of her followers are human and orcish slave-priests in Goblin Lands. You then slap yourself when Soren tells you that she is more commonly worshiped under her Orcish Name; Immunity.

Immunity is the name invoked by Mr. Milton when he preforms divine magic. One of your most trusted underlings serves a deity who may want Chasity dead.

Holy crap the plot got so thick I can barely see. And I'm still busy, but hell, this game is worth the time I can spare:

We need to either contact an Augur or ask Alfierzi about the hexes of either one of the Bonedust-aligned demons or Kanisswo. Just in case, I would ask Chastity first if she knows the name of any of the demons that work for her mother.

Dealing with designations:
Assign Offnaughtus Prime as Lash Master, I guess.
Tell Jourem that we are yet unsure about the Customs Master position yet, but we will consider him then.
Propose Lenny something: we could probably get a position for him in the city, but he will need to find us another pilot, and help us to designate a trustworthy Coin Runner. We are yet unsure about the Customs Master position, as we have other applicants.

Chastity's identity:
She will pose as an "apprentice". And by that, I mean, a lover we got so interested in as to offer apprenticeship (after all, we are a playboy, it wouldn't be weird, and nobody will get jeleous because of that blessing). She will have to learn either dark or air magic, and we can tell her the basics, but the other apprentices will have to tutor her meanwhile.

Also, tell Archmage Lee personally what Chastity told us to tell him, but say nothing more. We just got the message.

And, as a final thing to do, we should contact Alfierzi and see if she can get us a mind-wiping demon to remove Mr Milton's ties with Immunity.

We should disable the dark circle either now or very soon.  The prince might bring in another dark mage to test our loyalty.  We can always return, say we need to keep returning to disable it as it takes time to "cool down" the circle.  But only damage it enough so that it no longer works so we can reactivate it later.

Edit: Also tell him not to touch the stuff in there, in front of his mercenaries, there are *clearly* highly likely to be magical traps of all kinds, let us deal with it.

This way we can have an excuse to return to the castle for some time and reactivate the system if needed.  Power over Maeris, the prince, Chasitity, everyone.

Kill the orc whose deity wants to kill Chastity, fuck assassins and shit.  Torture him for info, before and after death, dissect his soul, make sure he is killed and his soul captured/destroyed in a way it wont communicate with the deity in any way.

Inform Chastity about her family being in danger and what to do about it.  She probably does not want us to help, but it is important she gets to make the decision so it is obvious she still has control here.  Do not want her getting antsy.

Offnaughtus Prime as lash master, it looks less corrupt and assure Archmage Lee that we have powerful friends of our own.

Let the dryad try out for the druid position but I assume Lee will not want her.  At least bring it up to him, not sure what islander thoughts are on forest magic creatures, probably bad.  Alternatively we could put her in charge of Silver Zone which has multiple druids for farming.

Lenny should be placed in charge of our old Ironheart Zone, if we can, he can move his kids into our villa, he and his wife will be very busy with the new posts anyway so it doesn't really matter where their home is as they will be away for long stretches of time.

Place Jourem Urisn as coin master if possible.  Sure it is blatantly corrupt, but he will do a good job.

Ptw

The situation seems to have gotten a wee bit complex, but nothing we can't sort out eventually. A note though, we haven't actually talked to Miri in many months. And poached her husband. And sent a mass of people to her home without notice I think. Really, if we switch over we really should talk to her and apologize for not messaging her at all.

For the current situation I agree with TomCost and VoidSlayer, though I don't think we should kill our friendly neighborhood Immunity worshipper quite yet. It would definitely benefit us to check what's up with him first and then decide about removing him in whatever fashion. Information is power, and if we'd spent more effort developing our information resources as M, then the crap that's going down on this end might not have happened.

It is curious how most of us readers seems to be attached to Maeris, to the point that we still think on her terms. Maybe it would be great if we switched back at her once, via Dougpo, we find a way to contact her (likely through Tivavarav, for example).

Just a quick update. This game is not dead, I have merely lost cushy post that allows me to spend most of my shift writing. I will still update this from time to time (might even do something here tonight), but in the meantime I have started something that I can update in smaller chunks. It will be a bit more lighthearted and mechanically driven, and can be found here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=158790.0

Depending on where I end up once my employer picks a new permanent site for me, this may or may not return to its previous frequency of updates. I will try my hardest to keep this alive one way or the other however.
