Embarked on top of visitor
« on: March 26, 2016, 09:13:13 pm »

I just started a new fort after my last one was torn to shreds by giant zombie peach faced love birds.

I embarked and then immediately checked for surrounding creatures with the units menu. That's when I noticed this bard.

They're labelled as a visitor and as soon as I unpaused they ran to my wagon and have been hanging around there like an idle dwarf (well to be fair, she IS a dwarf).
When inspected with v, she doesn't show any reason for coming like a regular visitor (no "this visitor has come to perform" or anything).

My only explanation is that they were travelling and I embarked on top of them. ::)

I'm going to test what happens if I make an inn and such.

Save file incase anyone wants to experiment with this: Link
I'll post on any interesting updates that occur.

Ok, I just realized that actual visitors to taverns and such are labelled as "guests", not as "visitors".

So I don't really know what this bard is doing. Also, I made an inn but they wouldn't go to it unless I set it as a meeting hall, so I don't think they intend to perform.

I've been going about building my fort and the Bard hasn't left still. I now have an inn and many people have come and gone, which makes me think this bard is here to stay.

I haven't been keeping a keen eye on her, but she doesn't seem to do anything. Just mills about in the meeting hall.

Also many of my dwarves are on friendly terms or are passing acquaintances of her. So she does seem to interact and talk at least.

Okay nothing really seems to be happening, and I'm planing to abandon this fort anyway due to a lack of useful metals.

I'll upload the file in the OP in case anyone wants to experiment with this. My apologies that in the save I've already begun building my fort and such.

No, sir, you are going about this the wrong way. Instead of trying to understand it, you should be finding a way to weaponise it.
