It really grinds my gears how people act like truthfully describing hateful views is more offensive then actually having hateful views.
It grinds my gears how people assume you have hateful views if you display the slightest modicum of self preservation.

But apparently "I would feel safer if there was at least an attempt made at a background check before letting a person into my country" now means the same thing as "I want all those sand monkeys thrown in death camps" so I guess I'm literally Hitler.

That's not what the M said.

I was looking for the balance of EU funding in the UK, and came upon this bit in an EU webpage.

Seems like in 2013 the UK paid out a net 7.26 billion GBP to the EU when you account for rebates, which averages out to about 140 million GBP sent out per week. And that's apparently a net -0.46% of the UK's gross national income that year, though how significant this number is overall I lack the background to properly estimate. Makes sense, since there's a whole lot of peripheral EU countries to keep on country-level welfare.

Of course, that page also goes on to state that there's a whole lot of less apparent benefits to the tune of 30-90 billion pounds per year that the EU's policies get the UK through things like the single market and various other dividends, though how those would be affected in the extremely likely event that Brexit is somehow not a momentous cataclysm where Jean-Claude Juncker is permitted to bring down the hammer of God upon the Brits and smite their economy forever to repay their blasphemous hubris remains to be seen.

Anyway, not really an immediate concern, I suppose, given that until Brexit happens in actuality they are still ultimately beholden to fund the EU and get funded in return, but I wonder what framework will replace this. A reskin of the previous order, except maybe scaled back?

But it DOES kinda feel like that's the point you've been making.

My point is not that most conservatives are not racist.  My point is that most racists are conservatives and it's pretty fucking frustrating that we even have to debate this.

(I suppose maybe depending on where you draw the line for "racist" you could make a counter argument by defining cranks like paleolibertarians as different from conservatives.  But that is trending far into the realm of semantics and the underlying point is legit.)

the forebrain isn't fully developed until around 25. Myelination, which is an important part of cognitive ability for both essentially everything but particularly reasoning, is yet to really finish coating everything until that point.

I'm curious as to what you hoped to accomplish with this. I did say at the end of that paragraph that I was a young voter.
I just found it funny, no offence intended.

EDIT: To elaborate, the general tendency of people to hold politicized "scientific" views that are perfectly applicable to they themselves as if they were abstractly objective is particularly funny/poignant.

I'd be happier if the end result in actual reality of making people feel safer didn't result in people they were afraid of just for being in the group to feel safe from didn't cop the opposite end of the stick.

Remember kids, only Hitler was ever racist in the history of the world, and if someone says that there are racist connotations to something you've said they believe you want to start WWII. There's absolutely no middle ground to someone calling you out on being racist. You're either a saint, or you are Hitler.

If only there were some kind of middle ground.

(At no fucking point in mainiac's history has he ever actually said the things you're saying he's said (that I've seen), and if you'd kindly source the posts you're talking about you can get me to back off on that front. He's a warhead of a poster, but goddamn, he's never said that. If you're reading that into what he's said, that says a whole lot more about how you think than it reflects on him.)

Ok, point made. Sorry for the above accusation-yess. Was feeling a bit defensive I suppose.

Sadly, there are people on the internet who would say you are being unfair to Hitler.  So no matter how rough the conversation, just thank your stars that you aren't talking to them.

No, not all Leave voters are racist & xenophobic.
Yes, racism and xenophobia played some part in the decision for a significant proportion of voters.

Not to mention that the Racism and Xenophobia was being used as a representative of "Leave" making it seem like for the people who voted Stay that it was a platform.

Okay. Sorry for being confrontational. I'm certainly not as intelligent as I'll bet I'll be in a decade or so. Most of that for me is centered around memory, focus/awareness, and designing plans/having a mindset I can follow through with, though.

I am currently working in a neurology lab specifically dealing with myelination, though, so while the effect isn't as large as my post might have implied (simply by lack of qualifiers), it's certainly there (from what I have read and been told by the people working in the field, that is).

I very much dislike when people disregard good/consistent science (don't get me wrong, science is hard and there's plenty of bullshit for plenty of reasons), because it clashes with their political views, however. Whether it's vaccinations, genetic influences, or the environment.
