Covenant: Sure, but the issue is that we're also in a society where racism cannot express itself openly, so racists do hide their agenda as anti-immigration. And everyone is left trying to wonder what is dogwhistling and what isn't. Regarding the Leave campaign, I'd feel much less queasy about it if they ran their immigration platform on stuff like getting the Poles and Romanian out, instead of just spouting bullshit about Turkey.

I interpret the fact that they choose to focus on the non-issue of Turkey (Which won't join anytime soon, and the UK has veto on new members anyway) rather than Romania or Poland as dog-whistling. Am I wrong? Maybe, but frankly, we don't know.

Don't think we actually would though. From what I'm picking up watching other conversations, it looks a lot like a non-EU UK would be fairly significantly aligned against our interests. They're apparently much more inclined in terms of economic and international relations with the sino-russian bloc. So iff anything, it looks like if they would end up on something besides the euro in such a scenario, it'd be the yuan or ruble.
