Well, this referendum sure delivered in comparison to the Scotland one.

Now here's hoping this just leads to people in the EU thinking really hard about what they've done and trying to do better in the future after the following crisis resolves itself, rather than the euphoric exit apocalypse that's getting predicted (although you could hope for something like the League of Nations -> UN upgrade in that case, since the need for it will still be there).

Would be neat if Scotland secedes, though. Referendums upon referendums. Vote until all parties are satisfied! As long as the Irish don't start killing each other again it might even be fine.

"Immigration gets ignored" is a talking point that always seems to be used but it's entirely untrue. It was a major issue in the last election and Cameron renegotiated it with the EU.

If anything it gets a lot more discussion time relative to its importance than you'd expect.

To be fair, for some "drive all the Poles out and reclaim our jobs" seems to be the only resort, even the fact is the Poles undercutted Brits in low-skill jobs and still content with their standard of living (and no they actually bring whole families to UK!).

But Brexit won't solve the problem, as it will drive numerous low paid services jobs out of UK instead.

Well, I popped in after seeing a bit of talk about it apparently going a very unexpected direction, and as I was reading Stross talking about this earlier in the week, he posted a montage of tabloid headlines with a bit of context which made me think of something after reading the last little back and forth about "it's totally racism" and "it's totally not racism" and "it's racist that you think it's racist" and blahblahblah a bunch of stuff which wouldn't make much sense over here in the states.

Social media is laden with newly minted supporters of Scottish independence. I don't know if that will be the case for the majority though. I think we are a very divided country and it's just a question now how much the bulk of Unionists put their love of the UK first. The pragmatists, some of whom have changed opinions already, could go either way.
