Oh, actually Northern England is pro-exit, and souther in pro-remain? Jeeez, I'm sure I remembered otherwise.
Apparently 4% of UKIP voters are going with Remain?

If they changed their mind, they'd stop supporting UKIP

It'd be like if I supported the Green party and was pro-pollution

Well, there's pro-nuclear (done properly, to get rid of more fossil-burning) Greens and pro-tidal (never mind about the mudflat ecosystem that suffers) Greens.

Maybe it's that UKIP is based upon the Outiness they want, but Leave aint the way to do it. Also Farage isn't part of the recognised Leave mainstream, much to his chagrin, so some of his fans might consider this the wrong time to vote.  And maybe they really don't like the idea of lovable Boris gaining credibility out of this (Cameron's already lost most of his, barring something spectacular pulled out of his hat, so that's not a problem).

And remember that UKIP was one of two parties created specifically around the idea of a Referendum. The other being the (marvelously obscurely named...) Referendum Party.  It had europhilic "we want a referendum to settle things" members, who may have drifted across to UKIP after Goldsmith's death precipitated the death of the party (but not the pressure group that succeeded it). Farage's leadership came a lot later than that and only then did UKIP diversify significantly away from the single issueness into the "disaffected right wing but not Right Wing" subset if the membership...

Darn,  battety low.  Unneccssary history lesson necessarily curtailed...  You'll be glad to hear.  ;)  Womble around on Wikipedia or something if you actually want to know more than I so far think I remembered...  ;)

Your analogy with pro-nuclear Greens seems rather apt, they could be soft-eurosceptics who hate the EU as it is, but would rather reform it from within rather than depart. Thus they would vote for UKIP to fill the EP with banter and thoroughly annoy the EC, but would vote remain in the referendum as they would rather keep the EU if positive reform is possible

If it's all to be believed, it's gonna be close...

And then, as Shakespeare (nearly) wrote:
Quote
Cameron: Let him, that is a true-born European,
And stands upon the honour of his birth,
If he suppose that I have pleaded truth,
From off this brier pluck a blue rose with me.
Johnson: Let him that is no continental, nor no eurocrat,
But dare maintain the truth of the party,
Pluck a slightly different kind of blue rose from off this thorn with me.

I'm taking tomorrow morning off work to stay up into the early hours and watch the results come in. Did something similar for the scottish referendum, and it was good fun.

Here's hoping for remain to win.
