... huh. Anyone know what happened around a couple hours ago to the pound? It was almost holding steady for a day or two and then there's another tiny cliff >_>

My guess would be the Asian currency exchanges opened for Monday business.

From another thread. Somewhat relevant
The conservatives earned 15 more seats than last time,  in the repeat election in Spain, despite rampart corruption, and evidence of using the security forces of the state in order to attack and discredit their political opponents.

It's looking like Jeremy Corbyn is going to need to replace basically his entire Shadow Cabinet after he fired one for trying to stage a coup and the others resigned in protest as part of the fallout of the Brexit vote.

Corbyn has stated that if anyone wants him gone they'll need to beat him in an election and that he refuses to simply stand down on the grounds that he was voted into leadership and he does not want to betray the trust of those who voted for him.

http://news.sky.com/story/1717625/twelfth-shadow-minister-joins-exodus

I feel I should be surprised at members of the Labour leadership still trying to oust Corbyn, but honestly given the amount of stupid nonsense that we saw in Scottish Labour around the referendum, the Scottish GE and the British GE itself I'm finding it hard to be surprised at how distanced their leaders can be from their base.

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2016/05/17/labour-members-increasingly-bullish-on-corbyn/

According to the most recent stats I could find the Labour party membership is more confident in Corbyn than they were several months ago.

The Labour rebels been way too overt about trying to oust him, I'm pretty sure it only makes the party membership double down. As far as I know there's no mechanism for them to prevent him standing again even if they do manage to force another party leadership election.

Corbyn is not as other politicians.  Neither is Boris (and now I hear he's claiming he can negotiate himself into better terms within-but-not-within Europe and forget about the leave nonsense... Which I just don't see, but...)

Compared with the politicos of Blair, Cameron, Osborne, Gove, etc...  Well, the more distance someone can put between those people and oneself, the more the cynical grassrooters might be tempted to give them leeway to prove their metal, even after past hiccups.

It's probably also alike to what is driving Trump's success...  At a very simplistic level.

Don't have a lot of time right now, gonna try to make a better post somewhere tomorrow. Still, I thought I'd share some links which I think haven't been posted in the thread before. Sorry if they are, and if any of these are from a 'source non grata' feel free to say so or ignore them.

Well clearly the next referendum should be if they should start deporting people.

One thing to remember is that these people were likely racist even before the referendum. It seems that many articles are skipping this obvious fact and instead attribute instability to the brexit.

Nobody is saying all of the leave voters are racists who are now all gonna start a new Kristallnacht. But I think this does show that it was a factor that had a real influence on how the vote went down, though how much remains to be seen.

It's likely this is just a very vocal minority right now, but for every bloke who's now shouting at random people to pack their bags, I wonder how many others think similarly enough that it informed their vote. But even beyond that, it seems like the leave victory emboldened the worst of them, unless these sort of things had become common in the UK while I wasn't looking.
