Once upon a roll, in a land and time unknown, there existed a game. It was a relatively simple game: You rolled a die, and you learned your fate. That’s it, really. No matter what the die said, it came true. If you rolled exceptionally, you were excited. And, if you rolled poorly... Well...
It makes me think: Is that how we all got here? To this place, to this time, is this how we came to be what we are now?
Does it even really matter if we were brought here by luck or fate or choice?
Yes. Absolutely. Because then the world has a purpose.
That’s why we stole it.
There are those in this world that use and abuse this power for evil. We are not among them. But we will do whatever it takes to keep this out of your grasp.
You have been warned. Stay away.
You are the elite of the elite. No, more than likely, you are the lucky of the lucky. You belong to a secret organization, of which there is no official name (‘For security reasons,’ you mouth silently), leading to an unofficial name of NON. NON’s goal is to retrieve powerful and dangerous objects, people, or abilities and make sure mankind remains safe from them. Those that perform their jobs satisfactorily are rewarded handsomely and eventually retire in luxury.
As you are a member of NON, you’ve been summoned by your superiors to reclaim an artifact, stolen from the organization itself. As usual, NON has refused to give you any useful information about the artifact other than the object can fit into your hand, and that it is very powerful. The culprit is an ex-NON member by the ID of D-6.
You’ll be dropped off in a location near the artifact, along with 7 others. Should you prove successful and retrieve the artifact, you will need to return back to the drop-off site. The compound is heavily guarded, surrounded by traps and monstrosities, and they know you’re on your way.
If you survive this arduous task, you will surely receive a promotion or reward--but more likely another mission. If not, then your family will never see you again. Not that they see you now, but you get the picture.
Now is the time to report in and make sure you've got all your forms in order.
RulesStolen blatantly from Sean Mirrsen’s Multiworld Madness. The GM (Game Master) posts a situation the players are in. The players then post their actions, according to the conditions GM sets. The GM then rolls for the actions' results, and writes them out in his post. Then the players post actions again, ad infinitum.
The action results are defined by a six-sided die roll:
[1]: Epic Fail. Your efforts only worsened your situation.
[2]: Fail. Your skills or luck were insufficient.
[3]: Meager success: The situation didn't improve by as much as you have intended.
[4]: Success: Your efforts were sufficient to achieve your goal.
[5]: Epic Success: Your skills and luck have combined to ensure your success.
[6]: Overshot: Your efforts were more than required for the goal's completion, and your luck is such that unfortunate side-effects are inevitable.
If at any time something threatens a player, that player may make a roll to avoid the threat.
For each action, any number of rolls may be made, as determined by the GM.
Primary causes for multiple rolls include, but are not limited to:
* Actions explicitly composed of multiple actions
* Actions that imply other actions that are not declared free
For every dodge roll, any number of additional rolls may be made, as determined by the circumstances, and any skills or special effects applied to the player.
Each successive dodge roll during a turn, unless it is a dodge against the same object or character, will get a -1 bonus.
If you are Stunned, Dazed, or otherwise receive a temporary penalty to overall or individual rolls, this penalty lasts until your next action is resolved, and not through the whole turn.
If you receive a long-term effect that has the potential to alter itself, you get an Effect Resistance roll immediately after your action is resolved to determine the spread and consequences of the effect.
If you are Unconscious, whatever penalty you receive will not reduce your roll score below 2, unless stated otherwise.
If you receive a mortal wound but are not killed outright, you need to pass a roll to dodge Death at the end of every turn. Only bad rolls here will provide penalties to survival rolls.
You can spend your turn to help another player achieve his goal. If your roll is higher, it is taken as the success roll for the action.
You can also spend your turn to botch another player's action. If your roll is higher, its opposite is taken as the success roll for the action.
In both cases, individual player rolls determine what happens to the players in the course of the action.
Additional Game Rules:
Permadeath is in effect. This means no "ghost" characters, but the player can still get raised and isn't kicked out at once. On a bright side, if you didn't get in the first player roster, you can take a slot once someone dies permanently.
I will attempt to update once or twice a week, and the faster you post, the faster I can update. If you do not post within 2 or 3 days of posting, you can be skipped. You will be given one forgiveness, after which I will modkill you, and your spot will be given to the next person in queue.
Skills
Skills are supernatural, extraordinary, or magical abilities, as well as ordinary abilities, that your character possesses. Every time you attempt to use a skill and roll 4 or 6, you will gain 1 XP (2 XP for rolls of 5) (This only counts your first roll without modifiers.) When you reach 6 XP in a skill, you will level up in the skill. When you level up, you may choose a new skill upgrade or keep your old one from any level up to your current.
At any time before your turn, you may sacrifice either 1 level (or 6 XP if at Expert) to get an automatic [4] on your next skill roll. You need to be at least Dabbling to do this, and your roll will not be modified in any way nor will you be given any XP.
An example of a skill would be regenerating parts of your body, throwing fireballs conjured from thin air, telekinesis or the power of persuasion, or even mundane skills like driving and archery.
NOTE: These may be subject to change. If this happens to your currently level or lower, you may change your chosen upgrade.
