Kobold raid!
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:34:00 am »

That's right, a kobold raid.  Two squads of kobold bowmen have just arrived, panicking the living daylights out of the 16 dwarves who currently inhabit my 10-month old fortress.  When Toady says "hidden fun stuff", he don't mess around.

Some comments:
* Wow, I wish I could kill them for the loot.

* But that's not going to happen.  In fact, I sure hope they stay near the edge of the map, because if they don't we're probably doomed.  Those bows they pack would make short work of my little dudes.  If they do charge inside, we'll try to ambush them right as they climb down the only stairwell in or out.  If they don't charge, we'll quietly wait for them to go away.
* Nobody loves kobold thieves, not even other kobolds.  The raiders have killed two thieves already.

My first fort had kobold problems.  I did not at that time realize just how deadly their copper arrows were, and sent out a squad of wrestlers.  Bad idea.  For some reason my dwarves' glorious death was enough to scare them off(?), but not before they killed probably half my fortress pop.  They shot my hunter to death, and then everyone ran to get his stuff, and then they got shot to death, and everyone ran to get the new stuff...
Even after I forbid the corpses, I had to hunt down and forbid every arrow scattered around the mountain.

Yep, dwarfs are fun that way.   :)

If software was real world, then it'd be something equivalent of hitting a nail with a hammer and having a building collapse on the other side of town.

Don't worry people, sometimes -moments occur

For what it's worth, this is not new and happened in the old 2d version as well.

It does seem somewhat more common this time around though.

In their defense, they don't do that in the new version.  :p
