No it isnt,  night trolls are created at the beginning of worldgen, then they kidnap people and transform them into "spouse of the night troll" etc then they forcibly mate with them, producing more night trolls, (of the first gender, not the gender of the kidnapped person)


The secrets of life and death is completely separate from night trolls, the only similarity is that both result in night creatures of some kind. (for necros its more necros and undead) for trolls its more trolls)

You also still didnt provide an explanaition for how the conversion process is actually done...I know how the secret books actually work, but this is as good a mechanic as any for a process that afaik has 0 lore.

Well they crush up bugs in their little holes, so maybe it involves crushed bug guts.

They also smell like "bug guts" in game in adventure mode if you press (o) for odor.  SO maybe they find specific bugs.. then they ..rub it all ove rtheir future mate or something?

They also "imprison" people in their lairs for some time before the person gets transformed (according to DF talk) ..so maybe its a process.

It obviously is magic.

First, it allows to marry the already married (and with children) person. So the victim effectively becomes a bigamist. How can that be possible without magic? Second, it changes the look and size (mass) of the captured person, considerably, making it similar to the capturer. It also changes their attitude, for example all of them become cruel (though there is some variety in mental traits, for instance many night creatures have [PERSONALITY:HUMOR:100:100:100], finding something humorous in everything they do, these jokers) .

All in all it technically changes the race. How? Magic, pure magic. And that cannot be explained scientifically.

Actually, it's not so much that you'd exterminate the night trolls, it's more like you'd exterminate their spouses.
