You'd get tons of cash if you switched to fundamentalism. :P

It'd also wreck your science output, of course.

(And you'd be in anarchy for several turns, which would be a Bad Thing with a spaceship on the way, I expect)

Update 10: Till the End of the World

In 1996 we finish first SDI, in Berlin.

Two years later we research Stealth, and we will soon have fighters strong enough to repel the Stealth Bombers that Mongols continue to toss at us. Also, the SDI in Nuremberg comes online the same turn.

Year 2000 on the calendar and the Eternal Chancellor of ZE REICH, Frederick, officially retires in 20 years. Of course the Zulu spaceship will end this sooner.

Scientists get jittery in 2003.

Suddenly Mongols turn around from Zulus and strike their own lapdog of the last 200 years - the Romans!

...Fuck you Caesar, you deserved that V:

We aren't spared of the brutal offensive, though.

Nanking and Xinjian switch ownership as well.

Next year we quickly re-capture and re-garrison Ormuz, albeit most of infrastructure was lost. Fortunately, the most important two pieces - SDI Defense and SAM Missiles are still intact.

YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS AND WE WERE SUCH A BENEVOLENT OCCUPYING FORCE!

Eh fine you can have it,  it was reduced to 1 population pile of rubble by all your bombing runs anyways.

...You didn't see it as mid-battles cannot be screenshotted, but two Mongol Deathbots arrived in front of our fort outside Nuremberg. I was ready to admit defeat... and then MASSIVE ZULU CRUISE MISSILE STRIKE wiped the Deathbot stack. Danke Gott for the enemy of my enemy!

Barely any grassland visible; most of terrain is swamp, plains, desert or jungle.

Mongols continue to bomb us; their newest favorite target seems to be Munich.

Massive, surprise coastal bombardment of Leipzig happens; Mongols throw 4 Aegis Cruisers, 2 Destroyers and a Battleship against it, and we lost the city to a paratrooper force.

We stage a desperate attack and retake the city in 2010.

...Oh right. It's 2010!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The game ends next turn so have a map of ZE REICH that, despite all odds, managed to cling to life and survive that long in the wastelands of war-torn planet Andala.

Yep. That happened.

As you can see Zulus and Mongols powered from the early game. I'm proud of our surge in the late 19th/early 20th century; our Luftwaffe and then capture of Ormuz sure boosted our survival chances!

Haha, the pollution murdered any score points we had. It's so sad.

Well folks, that's it! ZE GERMAN REICH survived but we didn't get to 2020 either. I will scribble this down as 'Stalemate'.

Cya in the next playthrough, in which we will move back in time to 278BC to see the squabbles of Mediterranean powers while this little republic called 'Rome' rises to power!

Civilization 2 scenarios have 'Objective' cities; if you capture and hold such city till end of turn limit, you get 1 point. Some cities are more important than others and net you 2 or even 3 points.

The Goal is to get enough points to count as Decisive Victory or at least Marginal Victory; having not enough points results in Stalemate, Marginal Defeat or Decisive Defeat to your Civilization.

The poll has been reset and there are 3 choices from which you can choose. Is it Carthage, Macedon Greeks or the Romans that we will try to beat the Scenario with?

If Hannibal had actually wanted to take Rome, he would have won.  Let's make it so.

In this scenario I will go with Warlord difficulty - I don't want Seleucids to steamroll me in 50BC with bombers :P

Update 1: The Rise of Rome CARTHAGE!

We will make sure that the last lines of this briefings will be entirely untrue! Also as you can see, there is time limit of 250 turns.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These are our possessions. The wealthy ports are Carthage and Lilybaeum. We also have Hippo Regius, Caralis and Leptis, but those are small settlements.

By the way, constructing Wonders is disabled in this game - however, Carthage and Alexandria start with Lighthouse wonder slotted for construction; while Seleucia in the east has slotted Copernicus' Observatory. You change the slot, you lose the chance to construct the wonder permamently.

We also have the settlement of Gades in the Iberia, far to the west. Gades is a sad place at the moment but has a chance to grow into truly splendid city. The only thing about it will be it's sucky, remote location.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, of note is the Greece&Asia Minor which I like to dub 'total clusterfuck'. Independent Greeks, Macedonians, Seleucids AND Celts tangled all between each other, with only Macedons have any semblance of continuity there.

Our disputes with Greek city-states (Orange) over Sicily is truly legendary. Syracuse is also a true monstrosity of a fortress, and I don't remember a game where it easily fell into enemy hands.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our target - Italian peninsula. Romans have Great Wall which makes fighting against them hard.

However, some might remember what I mentioned in earlier playthrough about my modded units:

These guys, coupled with Lighthouse, give us early edge to just toss our Triremes all across the Mediterranean and grab coastal cities. Heraclea, Tarracina, Taras, Delphi, Rhodes and all other ports are vulnerable. Veteran Privateer strikes with 6 Attack; as hard as a Catapult.

We need only to research Astronomy and Navigation, then Privateering. 3 techs. I will try to nab Astronomy from Seleucids, who already have it.
PS: Seleucids weren't interested. Aw.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Besides Macedons, there are two other post-Alexander kingdoms; these are Seleucids. See that Mesopotamia? It's gonna be filled with Seleucid cities in about 50 turns. Seleucids in this scenario grow into a very, very powerful faction.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These are Ptolemaic Egyptians. They are not really expansive, but they tend to be buddies with neighbours.

Except Seleucids. They murder each other at trigger value.

Several first turns aren't really intense.

We do get a prompt from Celts. As we aim to plunder Roman ports anyways, I accepted.

After scuttling pair of Triremes and using a Caravan to boost the construction and throwing some cash at the project, we finish the Lighthouse in 275BC. Ptolemaics promptly drop the plans.

Aww ye, the Gades horseman finds scrolls of Republic in an Iberian village. We switch at once.

Also, remember that wealthy Greek Masillia in north Italy? Our allies the Celts murderized its entire garrison and razed the city to nothingness.

They gonna switch to the Republic.

We have a Consul!
PS: And so do the Romans in the same year.

In 269BC, we assasinate a Roman Diplomat that was making his way through Lilybaeum's forest.

266BC and our horseman has a village join our Carthaginian Empire. It's far inside Iberia, and we name it Atium.

In 256BC our diplomatic alliance with Celts is unbearable - they ask for more and more and give nothing! I broke the alliance and signed Cease-fire with Greek city-states, Romans and Macedons; our erstwhile allies promptly declared war on us.

255BC; our Horsemen discover the knowledge of Banking and Feudalism in Iberian villages.

For now let's stop, I need to get to sleep before work tomorrow.

Update 2: The Pirates of the Carribbean MEDITERRANEAN!

In 253BC Seleucids do a little blunder. While they will still grow into a powerful faction, early game they will have not such a momentum as it would be.

Our horsemen find Invention-bearing scrolls in one of the last villages. While Leo's Workshop is sadly not available, Crossbowmen and earlier access to Gunpowder techs makes this a valuable find.

246BC - we discover Navigation! Romans and Seleucids sign a cease-fire, while Independent Greeks, Seleucids and Ptolemaics duke it out in constant orgy of elephant/catapult death.

Six years later both Celts and Independent Greek city-states declare war on us. Siiiigh. At least the Ptolemaics sign a cease-fire. Let's see if I can smuggle a diplomat to their cities.

Next year our Elephant unit that was crossing near Alps trampled a tiny Celt village of Aleppo to the ground.

If not by land, we will try by ship!

Then 237BC rolls on the calendar, and:

YAR HAR HAR, MATEYS, ITS TIME WE DO SOME PLUNDERIN' OF BOOTA-Y! Caravel in Leptis was rushed, and Carthage began training veteran Privateers.

If you look at previous screens, I'm gonna try make Heracleia and Taras our first targets. Taras especially because we're at war with the Independent Greeks.
PS: Building lots of stuff in ancient times takes so much timmeeeeeee. Ugh!

Curses! Taking Roman cities will be pain in the ass if they decide to rush some Crossbowmen.

Our Diplomat hitched a ride on our shiny Caravel and established an embassy in Taras. Our Privateer then attacks its garrison, but a couple of chewed Phalanxes (and years) later he dies in combat.

In 221 BC though, we're ready to go off to the sea~!

Yarr harr, mateys! We're off to some plunderin'! Next stop: Taras!

ARR HARR! The garrison of Taras was completely destroyed and all our Privateer units live!

HARR HARRR, MATEYS! Look at that fat loot!  CARTHAGINIAN PIRATEYS, BEST PIRATEYS, ARR!

...But what is this we see on the horizon across the sea, mateys??

ARRRRR!! More tiny cities to plunder!

Ha! Good riddance! I was hoping to get them to sign peace so we can leave Taras empty and go plunder, but they came with the offer themselves. Mayhaps they do not wish to deal with Carthaginians yet. Meanwhile, Seleucids do well and capture Pergamum, a wealthy city of the Independents in Asia Minor.

Our brave crew of Privateers is now off to Delphi!

YARR HARR HARR! A swift assault takes a single unit of Phalanx by surprise! We capture Delphi just a year after Taras, and we plunder 266 gold pieces from the secret chambers of the Oracle!

Macedons sign a permament peace treaty with us after fall of Delphi, and through technological trade, we learn the secrets of University, Medicine and Philosophy. Off to Sparta, and let's show our ex-allies Celts that they're not the only warriors in this region!

In 215, while our brave Privateers are passing the landmark island of Corcyra, we settle Naut in central Iberia and Sisa on the northern tip of Corsica.

Or was it Sardinia? Whatever, the northern tip of the island where Caralis was.

Get ready to plunder Sparta, mat-

Ow ow ow. Them Spartans had several Veteran Archers as Sparta's garrison! Look at our mateys, all beaten up- wait, we lost one! Nooo!

Arrr, them Spartans are true warriors. But we need to plunder! Thusly we will return shortly with more Privateers, and more updates to this LP.

MATEYS!
