But it is a learning experience, I'm sure. And it does make for a fun LP.
I have to admit, trying to survive while almost making some gains and doing backstabbings and stealings to catch up and basically going fast&furious does make a nice change compared to previous 'out-build and out-tech' playthrough
Update 4: Industrial Reich!Diplomacy with ze Romans at its finest, kekeke.
We switch to it immediatelly.
Our diplomats continue their (dirty) work. Turns out that Mongols have about 5 or 6 techs that we don't have. Then again they did slow expanding and I hear more quips about Zulus than Mongols lately.
A-ha! The glorious EISENKLADEN OF ZE REICH is gonna sink the puny Mongolian frigates!
...It sunk 2 out of 4 and damaged the third before getting sunk itself. Pretty good job. Conclusion:
MORE EISENKLADEN!!Or not.
Next turn Heidelburg goes into discontent and then refuses to get happy next turn despite my efforts and my entire government collapses so I gotta run damage control for a moment.
It's the worst of Civ2. You have 5 cities, 10 cities, 50 cities - one goes into Disorder for 2 turns and your Democracy falls. No save from it.
Took me 8 turns to get back on our feet.
Also Mongols just switched to Fundamentalism.
And Chinese followed suit, breaking the peace with Mongols.
Everyone is at war with Mongols. Our 2nd EISENKLADE survives a battle and becomes a veteran unit, woo!
Next turn
4 Mongol Destroyers bombard Munich and Leipzig. Fortunately our Musketeers were up to the task. But I think that building Coastal Fortresses in those cities won't hurt.
Aw ye! We actually took over Mongols for 5 turns before they developed Leadership as well. I also managed to switch about half of our Musketeers for Riflemen already.
I think Alexander won't make it. Besides Argos, he also lost Sparta few turns earlier.
Even Mongols don't have this. yet!Unfortunately our arch-nemesis captured a Chinese city of Macao and plundered this tech.
I decided to go against my own judgement and traded Tactics and Explosives for Railroad and Industrialization. This means factories (every city was ordered to drop what it's doing and build one) and railroads will soon appear in our little Reich.
We also quickly developed The Corporation; Mongols don't have that one either!
Genghis, asking for cease-fire? On his own?
o:
I guess the Zulu-Mongols war (that continues for about half a century now) isn't going that well to our nemesis. I accepted the cease-fire.
Uhhhh, fine, Senate, have it your way with the Romans too.
And from domestic news:
First railroad link opens between Leipzig and Munich! Soon the railroad network will span our entire peninsula.
Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig got their Factories finished too, so we will have ample amount of production. Mayhaps we can even begin producing military units to-
* Haspen cranks warning sirens, orders population to shelters.
Well this playth
rough is sure gonna turn
rough in a moment. Will we be the first victim of Mongolian aerial bombardments, or are they gonna (hopefully) keep the Death From Above away from us for a while?
We will see in the next update!
