"The canoes were arranged for your use. No need to worry about returning them to this point. the Nymphs will take care of them."
"Protocols? There are many and varied, often at odds, sometimes contradictory. the world is a wild, chaotic, messy place. I cannot guarantee that you will ever know everything you need to know not to cause offense - someone will surely take issue with your inoffensiveness. We all do the best we can, and take the consequences whether we want to or not. Farewell!"
Ears scritched, Eyes out, wings tucked, fiddle shifting to a Missisissippi Lazy River Theme, and boats laden, your party successfully enters the river boats upright and bodies mostly dry.
((oh, and Noir sacrificed flight for some other stat, so she can't fly out of the boat, should it tip, which it doesn't))
You drift downstream and steer the canoes across to the party side, the occasional ripple in the water telling you that, yes, something is down there. You find a wide, grassy bank near your destination. Several boats are already resting at the shore, and one is already heading upstream again. You pull in, clambor out, and are greeted immediately by a tall, thin, cloaked, dignified character with a long nose, pointed ears, and fingers that look as if they bend way too far the wrong way.
"Welcome. You may call me Anderson. I will be your liaison with the ... the higher class, shall we say? Allow me to escort you on a brief tour of the location and brief you on your duties." And with that, you are off.
"the point at which the rivers join is strictly off limits. Ensure that none approach it who are not obviously meant to be there." Said point is obscured by mist and an oddness in the air. The forbidden area is clearly delineated, and nothing and no one is within a hundred feet or so of it.
"the upper marsh is open for all" he says this as he leads you to the north, away from the rivers. the trees are few here, and the ground somewhat damp. "it is less solid than it looks in places. Please assist any who find themselves stuck in the mud.
Here, we have some tents, sent by Omega, for your use. Please touch your Brand to the corresponding symbol on one of these poles. that will allow you free access in and out of your campsite. For you who have volunteeered - I hear there is one amopng you? - you may speak your Ritual code with a hand pressed to the Brand here, and it will recognize you as well." ((the ritual code is a very truncated version of the oath, to the effect of "I am sworn to the Queen's Service, in the name of the Legion." You volunteers will already know this.))
"River Daness will be experiencing traffic you need not concern yourself with. Please attend duties elsewhere, though this river is not off limits to you." He says this of the other branch - the one flowing from the opposite direction than you came from.
"And here" he pauses, straightens, and gestures with his whole body in a long, flowing motion, "is the place of honor." And with that, he pulls aside some Spanish moss and waves you into an open area, covered in marsh grass, but firm underfoot. A hill rises slightly from the level of the rest of the area. there are pixies flitting about here, some talking to plants, some screeching and giggling in the air, some staring sternly, if briefly, at the ground below, as if lecturing trunculent children. You get a feeling ofshaping going on.
"this area is not off limits, but please restrict traffic here to the points of time after midnight and before false dawn, and after morning and before dusk. No one is to make this their resting place, but are to come either to assist, as these are doing, or to stay for a short while. Meals may be taken here, but ensure that all is cleaned afterward. Crumbs and the like may be ignored, but bones and bits of meat from meals must be removed, as well as any constructed items."
here, the fellow pauses, and turns his head. A sound reaches your ears - the all too familiar sound of arguing, coming from the direction of your landing site.
"Aha. it looks like you have duties to attend. You may find me here afterward, or in the morning, as it is getting late for diurnal types. If you do not see me here, simply call out my name upon entering this glade, and I will come to you."
