IMHO my dynasty is disproportionately small in landmass owned. Sure we have the islands, but some more farmable land would be nice, as well as some larger islands farther out.

Size of lands doesn't really matter. Look at the Starks in Game of Thrones. They have some of the largest holdings, but most of it is frozen and not great for living/farming. Keep in mind it's just a rough map with no info other than position and borders - perhaps the land you do own is very fertile and/or densely populated.

How many islands have been conquered when the defender has had the superior navy?  That's why you have less territory than everyone else.

Trebuchets are not something that you'd normally mount on a ship, and even then you wouldn't be able to mount much ammo for them. And that ammo issue remains the same for the catapult as well. Ballistas, while not as constrained for ammunition tend to not be too effective against another ship or anything on the coast. Same goes for archers.

Ancient History Time!


In one of the (many) sieges of the (now) sicilian town of Syracuse, Dionysus the Tyrant affixed catapult to his ships and used them to great effect along with his crossbowmen.


Massing archers on ships was always a valid tactic. Fire missiles were always extremely effective vs boats.


I admit that trebuchets were not widely used, but I have found references of ships built with trebuchet mounting in mind.


Ballistae would primarily be for coastal bombardment, and you could fix several scorpion-style ballistae to each side of the ship for a 'gunboat' type ship. However, catapults on ships WAS a thing.

In any event, naval supremacy wouldn't help on the mainland. And given that the ships at the time are galleys, you'd be more concerned about using them for raids than long-term blockading.

That, and I think Zan's decision to not give you much land on the mainland is the fact that no-one else can really effectively seize those islands.
