They might be, but I think it's mostly the uniform itself giving the wrong impression here since the shoulderpads give it some extra width.

Jopax: the best thing about that is the skin complexion and the lighting on the face. You've done an excellent job there.

My main criticism would be that the hair is weirdly textured and slightly detached. The way I do hair is to draw the character bald, so that I know exactly where his head is, THEN draw the hair.

It's funny because I don't really like the way his skin turned out either, I'm not exactly sure what's bugging me about it tho. And you're right about the hair now that I look at it, looks glued on, think the issue is that I didn't bother shading the edge properly. The texture is wierd because I went for a semi-painterly style which probably doesn't mesh with the slightly more realistic face. All stuff to be fixed in his next iteration though.

Maybe just a little too much red in the nose? Seriously though I think it looks great. There's even a little bit of green in the cheeks and chin to imply stubble. I think the skin is good.

So I did a B&W study this time, it took too long for how it came out. There's just something unnatural about the texture you get when using certain soft brushes, think I should work on my strokes some more so I can avoid using them alltogether.

Dude, that is actually SO GOOD! My art teacher always used to talk about mark-making and how you shouldn't try to stop it completely because "you're not going to trick anyone into thinking that this isn't actually a painting", but for a minute, you totally had me convinced that that was just a photo, not a painting. Great work!

Slightly more seriously though, as i mentioned on deviantart, that's the most horrifying broccoli i have ever seen, and I LIKE IT. Gotta love that 'fro. Or maybe it's a froccoli??
