I haven't played it, but I've watched youtube let's plays of it and they seem to have at least made it so that the captions don't cover the menus.

I really enjoyed Hellgate: London. I might need to revisit it someday.

Haha, wow. I'd totally forgotten Hellgate: London was a thing until you mentioned it.

Personally, I still love Diablo 1. Its a dank, claustrophobic game with nigh-unnavigable corridors. I loved the Bookcases with Lore and actual spell scrolls (remember when things on paper in Diablo games were more than Scrolls of Boring?) The story grabbed me because it was un-selfconsciously being itself.

Diablo 2 was good, a mechanically richer game that was visually easier to read than 1. It began the slight disenfranchisement I started to feel with the series though, that culminated in D3's "welcome back to Azeroth" palettes and god-awful story that was so far up its own ass while still being completely unable to make me care. I remember somewhere around Act 2 of D2 my "don't really give a shit about the story" started to kick in. It was rekindled briefly due to that one cutscene with Marius and Tyriel. By the end though I'm glad it was over. D1's story was so much more approachable to me, primarily because unlike D3, it was fresh and not a complete dry humping everything that had worked in the series before hand.

Y'all know that Oldschool Runescape is a thing right? There's even a really active subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/ People stream this game a lot. It's still extremely popular.

Yeah, I know. I just didn't feel as invested when I tried to get into that :v

I felt mostly the same way. When I tried getting back into it recently I had fun for a while until it became boring.

I'm not in the same frame of mind that I was when I played the game. I hate to say that younger-me was really easily amused and had no taste, but I was really easily amused and had no taste. If I were playing RS2007 for the first time today, I would probably not like it.

IMO the turn-off for me was reliving all of the early-game grinding. It was OK the first time around when I was in middle school and was capable of getting lost on my way from Draynor to Falador, but now I'm stuck grinding up my skills to the point I can actually do quests that are worth something. If I could get to, oh, I'd say around the level Prince Ali Rescue is viable I think I'd be having a good time.

Maybe some of us could try to get back into it together? I think the vague pain of early-game grinding could be lessened by companionship.

Sure, I would play if I had friends to play with. I was in the middle of grinding up my mining and forging since my favorite thing to do in that game is make armor and weapons. If I don't already have you on Steam add me. "GUNINANRUNIN"

Man, this talk of 2007 "oldschool" Runescape makes me feel old. I remember playing Runescape with my brother on a 56k dial-up modem racking up huge phone bills. That must have been, what, probably 2001? Back then all characters were 2d sprites facing the camera at all times in a really low-poly 3d world. I had so much fun playing that and exploring the world.

I also remember hearing about Ultima Online, a mythical world that was like Runescape but much bigger and everything was possible. But alas it died before I got access to a stable internet connection and a disposable income.

Anyway, on topic: do games that are just generally obscure and sold badly but you absolutely love count? If so, Okami. It might be my all time favourite game, it has everything from incredible visuals and an amazing soundtrack to memorable characters and a great story.

Mirror Edge is one of my most well-loved game I had played, mainly because of the free running is just great to do and trying to do it in the most silly but cool way is great even if I mess up.
I do get why people hate the first person platform games but I really enjoy playing this game for it.

Also I do quite enjoy playing World of Warcraft for the dungeons and Raid as they can be quite fun with people.

I thought the only people who hated that game were the ones who get motion sick. Really though Mirror's Edge was groundbreaking. It was unique at the time and led to other first-person games implementing interesting platforming in their gameplay. Games like Brink and Titanfall.

Daggerfall. No one likes it, as no one was alive when it was released. I still love it, and I think it really deserves a place in the Hall of Fame. I can't be objective about this, as I played it in seventh grade after a friend gave me the strategy guide, which was literally a book full of code - the game's code. So they told you what the algorithm was for (say...) pickpocketing, etc. Fell in love.

Aurora. As with most games that I like, the majority of gamers take a look and say "DUUUUURRRRR TOO HARD/GAAAAARRRRRRP NO GRAPHIX", etc. I think it has a special place in gaming, much like DF does with it's own genre.

I theoretically like Daggerfall. I just get very frustrated playing it because it's archaic. Not in a fun nostalgic way, in the "I can't believe people enjoy this" way. Like forgetting a minor detail that leads to your character basically being invalid and unable to beat the game. Or the fact that the map is an unreadable mess.

So I play Daggerfall about once a year, and like it for a few hours until I get lost in a dungeon and can't find my way back out.

A youtuber called "Grimith" does play throughs every so often on Daggerfall. The best one is with another youtuber called "LethalFeline" where he guides Lethal through an unarmed build to the end. Much punching of ancient vampires and doors abound.

Daggerfall: Come for the character creation, stay because the dungeons are so large. It is important to note that the dungeons are not randomly generated so the layout stays the same across multiple games. The game has many ways to break and become unplayable, and also many ways to be broken and have fun with iffy mechanics.

As for games I like; I think we had a similar thread some time ago where I said "Total Annihilation: Kingdoms". I enjoyed my playthrough of "Fable 3", the plot and moral questions were interesting.

I really enjoyed that one too T_T But I was sad to see it discontinued and the late-r game being mostly copies and blatant rehashes of early game :-\ What I enjoyed there was the early storytelling and at least the aesthetics (even if they got female armor in a more...'modern stereotype breastplate', at least it was modest).
