Is there a point to elaborate defenses anymore?
« on: December 12, 2007, 10:32:00 pm »

Since sieges are currently broken, what's the point of making elaborate fortress defenses at this point?  Are there still random events that will put those defenses to the test?  Thanks!

I believe, my simian friend, that elaborate defenses are a goal in and of themselves.  The less purpose they serve, the more Goldbergian their mechanisms, the more you embrace your inner dwarf.

Dwarves LIVE to create redundant and useless traps.

Besides, they are useful against thiefs, goblin snatchers, megabeasts, traders (fucking greedy humans, almost as bad as the hippy elves) and whatever else you throw into them.

Besides, they are just fun to build and plan out.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

My next fortress is going to have defenses so powerful that the moment anything of interest spawns, bloody chunks of meat will rain from the skies.

"Glad to hear it, lad!  That's an extra beer ration for you, that is!"
