Nicknames for the soldiers (since we sure as hell aren't going to know them long enough to remember names):
Halberdiers: Mustache, Patchy, Rat-Face, Pretty Boy, Sleepy, Eagle
Arquebusiers: Piggy, Hat, Crooks

-1 Get to know everyone's names we shall respect our fellow allies for we may die together and as such we must treat them with the respect they deserve to do so otherwise is surely dishonorable.

You mentally give each of the other soldiers nicknames as you finally reach the top of the hill, and then begin to spread out to watch the treeline and await the completed repairs of Greywatch which would hopefully allow you into the fort where its warm. That and where you're less likely to take an arrow to the skull from the orcs who are trying to tear this fortress apart ...

Time passes in a blur and at last the sun begins to set causing the entire forest in front of you to fall into a state of twilight where swathes are dark as night while some areas have the last rays of the sun illuminating them through the gaps in the mountains beyond. Somewhere along the day one of the arquebusiers, you think its the one you named Crooks, tied some torches to some fallen branches and stuck them into the ground and has finally gotten around to lighting them up though the process is slow as he fumbles with the flint and steel trying to get some sparks to light the oil soaked torch. However it seems your day was not meant to end quietly as suddenly Patchy, and Pretty Boy start shouting and pointing towards the plain below which upon further investigation reveals some shadows moving quickly in your direction and from your count there are roughly eight shadows, two of them a fair deal larger than the others.

This news causes Crooks to fumble the flint mid light causing it to fall to the ground while the rest suddenly lurch into action making sure their gear is in order, and looking towards you for some kind of order. You get the feeling that Captain Wilheim may have just burdened you with a position you're not quite comfortable with ...

To arms! Pikemen, form a line, two deep! Handgunners, ten feet in front of the pikes. Fire a volley when the shadows close to distance, and fall back to the pikes. Once the volley is fired, the gunners will draw their swords, and hold the flanks of the pike line.

Crooks should finish lighting the first torch then use the lit torch to quickly light the rest and return to the main group, unless the enemy is too close.

((If they're Night Goblins this is essential. Plus our gunners will be able to see their targets best while they're silhouetted by torchlight.))

Have the six halbs form a single line and crouch, with their weapons arrayed outward. The Arquebusiers will fire over them in a volley at the closest targets.

((The less the gunners have to move, the more time they will be able to spend shooting, and the less likely the men are to get disorganized and make mistakes. We should only reorganize the formation when we have to to make things as simple as possible for them.))

We ourselves will shoot independently at the smaller shadows (since we're the best shot). When the enemy is about to meet us, then the gunners shall fire one last volley at the big targets and go to the sword to protect the flanks of the pikes.
