I see not one, not two, but THREE jerks.

A cookie to whoever can guess who they are.

One jerk, two jerks, three jerks. Three jerks! Ah ha ha ha ha ha!

Sorry, you reminded me of Count von Count. I think tiredness and the mention of a cookie led me to reach the odd connection.

That being said, I should probably think of something witty to put here.

I move that all posters using namecalling in this thread be branded with the label they used.

On that note, I would like you add that all of you are very kind, rational, and considerate people.

I second the motion.
Except in obviously homorous cases.

If I can rerail this thread briefly, you can use workshops which produce finished items like furniture and crafts as stockpiles quite easily. Bear in mind that things slow down a lot as they get cluttered though, so once things get really bad, build a new workshop and start working in there instead. You can even block off the other with 10 suspended items or something, if you use the manager screen a lot.
Then, next time the caravan shows up, clear out your workshops by moving everything to the trade depot!
Hint: to prevent serious boredom/repetitive strain injuries get a macro program and set up a key to input down then enter at rapid speeds and just hold it while you shoot past the millions of crafts or whatever

do magma furnaces still not suffer from clutter penalties?  i think it was a bug at one point but Toady said something about leaving it in due to play balance problems with bar block ore stockpiles and bins and hauling?  maybe im imagining the whole thing....

They aren't infinite stockpiles, either.  I have a butcher's that has that many hoary marmot skulls and deer bones and so on and so forth they have started to pile up OUTSIDE of the workshop where I can see them normally.  I'm trying to get rid of them through several mass-orders of -->make bone bolts[247], but they ain't going down  :(

jack johnson, raider has been shot and killed.

The above (including bbcode) neatly weighs in at 255 characters. Fallout meets DF

... There *can* be.

Garbage dumps, unlike stockpiles, have infinite capacity.  So, if you place a garbage pile next to your butcher (or, more appropriately, next to your Craftsdwarf's workshop), and then order the bones dumped, they'll stack to high heck in a single square.  Then, just reclaim them.

I find this method very, very nice for forcing my masons make stuff out of the various pretty-colored stones that can be found.

One micromanagement aspect is that, I believe, dwarves take trash to the nearest active garbage site, so you'll need to deactivate the bone, skull, and shell pit when designating stone for dumping, and vice versa.  Still, the savings in time and space are well worth it!
