"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there....wondering.....fearing."

Harold looks toward the spectacle, as if he was already shell shocked from the experience, leaning on the side of the boat. After a moment, he speaks up again.

"The longer we spend in the water, the better the chance of those things coming at us. The boat is faster than we can swim. I'm staying on it. The Queen herself couldn't get me to jump in the water after....after that."

((Note, that was an excerpt from "Call of Cthulhu", just for the record :p.))

((What're you talkin' 'bout? (Yeah, Marne was just the first battle I could name for that. Was more interested in actually getting the thing written then checking on that.)))

Private Corbin looks at you. "I'd eat nails before takin' t' water after seeing that thing. Can't swim anyways..."

"I eat nails for breakfast *pulls nail off ship and munches on it*. All Australians do."

'There appeared in the papers caricatures of every gigantic and imaginary creature, from the white whale, the terrible "Moby Dick" of sub-arctic regions, to the immense kraken, whose tentacles could entangle a ship of five hundred tons and hurry it into the abyss of the ocean. The legends of ancient times were even revived.' Could...that have been what attacked us? Some kraken, an ancient beast from long-dead legends?

"Showing up exhausted and unarmed on the shore isn't a great idea either.... They might show up after us, but that won't make them safe from the enemy.....or the leaders. Will....will anyone believe this happened?"

"Aye. This is surely happening. Just as surely as us us getting blown to smithereens by the mines in the straight up ahead. Question is, do we want to drown or do we want to be blown asunder? "

Can we see the shore?

Corbin frowned. "Everyone saw it, right? The admirals and the captains. There's no way this could go ignored." He didn't sound convinced.

Can we see the shore?
You perceive the shadow of a land mass up ahead, but a thin fog prevents you from seeing any details. That weather is probably the only reason why the Turk artillery hasn't fired on the fleet yet.

"Anyone who wants to swim, by all means go right ahead and jump into the water that has whatever is responsible for snapping a ship in half, and try your chances. Just leave your gun, ammunition, and nationality behind since I would rather not be said to be from the same country as any dumbass who decides to jump in to act as a snack. As for those of you from my fire team who actually want to see land again, keep a lookout for whatever that thing is coming back for more and don't fire at the damned thing. Last I want is it deciding to take us out, because someone else pisses it off, at least let me do that.

I swear I'm getting to old for this shit."

The last line was muttered as Carl stared at the half empty pack of smokes in his hand before cramming it back into his breast pocket, this was why he hated boats ...

Keep an eye out on the water as we proceed.

"Perhaps we should turn the lights off so we don't get artilery rain and try to slink closer to the relative safety of shore."

adwarf/Carl Sanderson
You deliver your speech to everyone nearby while Corporal Henderson looks on with approval. Afterward he brings you near the bow of the ship. You squeeze past the others to a cleared area occupied by some crates. "These are the Mills bombs. There aren't enough to go around, so I want you to distribute them to men you trust. Make sure to spread them out among our section. Keep a few for yourself too." You pack a satchel with 20 Mills Bombs wrapped in wax paper. "Not everyone knows how to use them so make sure the blokes who get 'em know what they're doing. Oh and don't let West get a hold of one, for Blighty's sake."

Sosoku234/Keaton West
Fox and Peters stand on either side of you. Mostly they ignore you when you talk. They think you're crazy, but harmless. They probably won't hurt you unless you do something drastic.

GigDes/Noah Shepard
Corporal Sullivan gets your attention. He's a sad-looking man with olive skin and thick eyebrows; a Malaysian. "Hello, Shepard. Are you okay?" He produces a pair of cigarettes and offers you one. "Fancy a smoko before we go forth?" His hands are shaking almost as much as his voice.

Stirk/Harold Hotchkiss
A chill washes over you and the hairs on the back of your neck straighten. You feel like something is watching you. It's probably just nerves. Nothing strange has happened since the battleship was pulled down. You notice the 2nd Lieutenant standing near the cockpit and speaking to the captain. You're too far away to hear the exchange but you hope he's trying to get on the radio. You wish you knew what was going on.

"....Something tells me...this....this has only just begun.... For a time I would feel I belonged still to a world of straightforward facts; but the feeling would not last long. Something would turn up.... to scare it away. "

Harold gives a slight, humorous laugh, looking back over the water and leaning on the rail.

"Once, I remember, we came upon a man-of-war anchored off the coast......There wasn’t even a shed there, and she was shelling the bush. Ah, sorry if I come of distant...Corbin. Literature has always given me... comfort. Even now, I find the words of great authors...suiting our current condition...don't you think? The captain and Lieutenant seem to be preparing for shore. The Turks don't have much on...whatever that was."

Hey :I Timezones! I'm active too y'know ;_; (just busyness + anxiety but I'm active!)

Can we create female characters due to the diverge of history and eldritch forces? :P
I was waiting for someone to ask so that it wouldn't be my fault. Yes you may.
:V!
Well I hope you don't mind someone with a tiny background in engineering.

((A serious note: Conscription was never enacted in Australia. Every Australian who fought in the first World War was a volunteer. The Australian corps only made up about 10% of the Allied force and were responsible for more than a quarter of German prisoners captured on the Western front. Close to 10% of the population of New Zealand fought in the war.

Tens of thousands of men on both sides (Ottomans, Germans, French, British, Australians, New Zealanders) died at Gallipoli, and the tragedy of the conflict led to Australia and New Zealand seeking greater independence from Britain after the war.

Cheers to every man who fought. Though there will be, there's no harm in wishing that there's never a war like it again. Therefore: may humanity never see a conflict of it's like again.))
