I'm sure you've seen the hostiles just walk right in and start slaying everything. This is the kind of thing a permanent gate guard should be in place to prevent. No one should be permitted to enter through the bases of the towers except those with permanent residence or employment in the keep. Each of those could house some support facilities, such as guard administrative offices, barracks, storage, training, to further justify a guard presence. And the dungeons immediately beneath the keep should have cells and jailers to keep watch over both prisoners and any potential intruders from the dungeon passages.
Im sure toady will get to that with the crime/punishment/thief stuff.
I'm impatient! If I can claim the keep, I'd want to get the construction started immediately.
hehe i'm impatient too, im so excited for the future of this game.

So currently we are able to build while in adv mode? If so.. how?

Not in the vanilla game yet, but will be later.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Probably not, I'm just making an optimistic guess.

...

As for building projects, I'm going to get a bunch of companions to make a ridiculous wooden tower thing and fill it with books. Best library.

Maybe a house/mercenary guild/secret base first.

Then--depending on how fast and unintrusively it can be done versus in fort mode--I'll probably build my global rail system.

Actually I wonder how adv. player sites interact with fortress mode. Might just be that you can't build a fort where an adventurer built a site. Which brings to question: can you 'reclaim' such a site? Aren't Lairs technically sites too?

As for deconstruction, if we can't get tree cutting for elf sites, I highly doubt we'll get deconstruction for any other sites. Should get something for your own sites however.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

man I remember doing nonsense like that with my Companion Fort modification of advfort.
wonder if Toady speeding up the process of waiting hours for a companion to build a floor.

oh wonder if this gets you access to the stuff I found out and allow you to build in a tree.
so uhh use minecart tracks, avoid sticking a floor into a tree and everyone won't horribly die from cave in.

Heh, I figured that one out the easy way. When I built a road that extended into the branches of a tree, instead of a cave-in it just disassembled in midair. And all the component blocks just hung there in midair, out of reach. It also destroyed the tree without a trace, so there went my extra lumber.

I’d love to see how the blueprint mode works with respect to companions and building. And whether it can be applied in fortress mode in the future (particularly now being able to select materials).

I wish DF adventure mode were more like Unreal World (and vice versa). Somehow the civilisations and map travel in Unreal World appeal to me in ways that DF doesn’t.

I want my companions for adventuring and performing, not home improvement. Isn't the world full of skilled laborers not doing a damn thing? Currency might have some value if we could hire them to do their jobs.
