i'll play as a dwarven missionary. i'll convince elves that nature is horrible, then cut down trees right in front of them to prove my point

And now I'm hoping that elves will actually react to treecutting. :V

Don't they already, toady said they do.

Don't they already, toady said they do.

I mean if you start cutting down trees in adventure mode, whether they'll freak out and call you a murderer, or the botanical equivalent. Which they rather obviously don't yet unless you use DFHack sorcery to cut trees. :V

I can't wait to have another community museum game reboot now that the NPC artifacts will actually have interesting aspects about them.

I loved that story of Dishmab and his nemesis Kromgar fighting atop a magma forge from the DF museum thread. It might be my favorite mental image to come out of the whole DF fandom, the image of Dishmab long falling into magma sea gandalf-in-Moria style, and then death itself refusing to take him because he was so hardcore, and instead his admantine armor fused together from the heat like a second skin, and he just walked right out of the lava lake to finish the job of killing his necromancer equal, and his betrayer.

I can only imagine the stories that will come out of another game now that there will be features and tools now built into the .exe that even remotely support what that thread was trying to pioneer.

Well after heartbreakingly deleting the wrong folder while trying to rename my old df and having to rebuild it from various scattered parts I got the game working.

You can build things straight on the side of a cliff!

The interface is surprisingly slick considering the difference between adventure mode and fort mode. Actually makes advfort come off looking silly in many ways (though it will still be much faster) but I'm sure it will be able to tap into these routines eventually.

Find it really odd how construction is all over the place, chopping trees is tied  to grab, making stuff in workshops is in x reactions, B for constructing those items you made in reactions.
also have anyone figure out how to make minecarts track in this version

My first adventurer went out into the wilderness in the dead of early Spring without alcohol, and eventually died of dehydration. But not before figuring out how to start building, and chopping trees. My second one explored the Mountainhome a bit and came out with a barrel of rum. 40 units. Didn't take terribly long to retrace my steps and find the walls of the house I was building. And not too far away I found the last guy's dead body. Took his stuff, and when I had a carpenter's shop, I built a casket and laid him to rest in the carpentry area. I might build him a small tomb instead. Not sure.

I even named the site, claimed it on my own behalf, and created a main hall out of the dining room. So now I really do rule the place. It's literally just a tiny house. A three by three dining room, with a three by three bedroom, and a three by seven workshop area.

I've actually run into a problem with the building function: doors and beds (havent tried much else yet) will disappear after being constructed and then waiting, sleeping, or working again. Can't put a nice door on my house if it goes and vanishes.

yeah I think the issue is items at the camp seem to have Rot issues and will decay over time. unless said item is infact unable to rot.
I had stash some goblin corpses there the other day and they all slowly fade away.
also setting up zones can crash the game.

Does furniture still rot if you lay down a floor first? Or does the floor just rot away like everything else?

Yeah. Rot still works.

Spoiler: Rotten bookcases (click to show/hide)

What I did, maybe I'm wrong somewhere.

  • Constructed walls and floors.
  • Set a zone. Main hall. Claimed the site.
  • Went raiding a necro tower.
  • Came back with books and slaves.
  • Constructed bookshelves.
  • Built bookcases. I built them in a library zone. On a floor. With ceiling.
  • Read some books (30ish, to train reader). And the bookcase was already " x x ".
