Are you lazy?
« on: February 17, 2016, 09:17:21 pm »

1. Dig a big room and put everything in.
2. Use a big domitory instead of bedrooms.
3. Use mined-out ore veins directly.
4. Everything goes to a big stockpile.
5. Sleep under trees and or inside caverns.
6. Buy the caravan out using xsocksx and barrels of prepared food.
7. Atom-smash nobles who demand something you are too lazy to produce.
8. Leave the game running in the background until it is paused by an event.

That's not "lazy" so much as "I hate vampires".

Either that, or you're just too lazy to do them. :)

#1 at the beginning of a fort so I can get everyone secure quickly. Of course, as the fort grows, I empty this room out and turn it into some kind of grand entrance hall and/or trade depot room. Until then, it often serves as a dormitory as well. I generally try to branch out pretty quickly.

#4 I've tended to do for longer, and I think there's always some random object at the end (buckets and chains and other random bits of furniture, usually.) I'm breaking myself of the habit because it makes the game more bother and decreases efficiency.

#6 because what the hell else are you supposed to do with all of that crap?

#8 if I'm waiting for a certain task to be accomplished, or if the fort is incapacitated by a tantrum spiral or somesuch event where there's no use in watching it.

I think what makes me lazy is a reliance on familiar, standardized patterns for the utilitarian parts of the fort, especially for bedrooms.

9 - use DFHack autodump command to avoid waiting for half a year so your dwarves transport every single piece of crap from a defeated big siege into the atom smasher.
10 - use DFHack autodump destroy command because you were too lazy to even make an atom smasher

11 - Charcoal? Flux stone? Pig iron? How about I just remelt and reforge this pickaxe until I have enough steel to cover all my needs.

But it is easier to buy several steel bars or steel anvils, unless they don't have any...

6. Buy the caravan out using xsocksx

Is the opposite of lazy.  My god, selecting all of those socks... multiple times... takes SO long....

The prepared food?  OK, that's much more efficient.  One selection, many thousands of uristbucks.

But you have to hit <enter> TWICE to trade each stack of prepared food. That's sooo much worse than just hitting it once for a whole bin of x(pigtail socks)x.
