Oh, you're watching this thread?  That's embarassing.  Master General is watching me flail in a poor imitation of his talents.

Pff, you think I know what I'm doing half the time? A foolish mistake seldom made twice!

But seriously, I skim it some from time to time. Seems interesting enough, but don't wanna get too involved (or the itch to start participating would get too big). All said, you guys did get into a pretty crappy situation right of the bat, so I'd say you're all holding up well enough given the circumstances.

Well, I just hope we can find some way not to get into another crappy situation due to PR...

((@syv: you're in half cover vs aliens to your front. Full cover would be something like a solid wall, or the doorframe devastator's char is in. You don't get cover if you're flanked past 90 degrees.

Aiming at one point against targets playing pop-up will most likely work... until they reposition on you, or their friends flank you. They're not video game characters, and have tactical sense. Think, if I was a shooter being targeted, how would I adapt? Then apply it to anticipating the enemy's best moves. ))

ack sorry Syv, I'll squeeze you in consider this right after the last turn, Barrantes has flashbanged your clustered target, making them ripe for the picking:

"DENNING [TinFTH]!  SUPPRESS NORTH!"

Lester shouts into his comms "I'M TAKING COMMAND!  Muldoon [Dev], Barrantes [Nik], take the north lift NOW!  We're suppressing from the south--avoid our fire!  Patrick [MidJag], take cover and overwatch the SW lift!  Everyone who has usable explosives--USE THEM."

40mm HE to the southwestern elevator.  Then, check whether Denning is suppressing north--If he is, shoot a smoke, then HEs at the cluster to my northeast.  If he isn't, lay down behind cover (so I can't be shot from the northeast or east), and suppress the elevator to the north.

Edit:Just checked, and I made an error with my charsheet.  It doesn't list me as having a smoke grenade, but I did purchase a 40mm smoke.  Link to relevant post showing purchase, and also the accidental exclusion from my charsheet.

((MidJag, suppress nade SW.  SE is too far, and isn't a flank.  Cover from the guys to your north and northeast.  You should be able to go prone somewhere that none of them have LoS.))

You HE the North-West service elevator and the North-East cluster.

Did you want to smoke the north-east cluster too? You do that.

The alien in the north-west service lobby goes splat. The flash-banged bunch in the north should be in pretty bad shape too.

2 go splat immediately. 3 eat a whole lot of shrapnel. The commando in the bodysuit loses his right leg.

Also syv, consider yourself conscripted to help sort out the character sheets.

((Now that's why an axe was completely worth 300$ spent on it!..

@syvarris I believe that modern melee weapons are as much utility tools as instruments of murder; in that capacity alone they might be worth it.  (This does not take in account how potentially good the futuristic melee weapons might be.) And then, in rare cases where really CQB happens, they are at least on par with most guns fired at point blank, and (depending on the weapon in question) often far more damaging - which is not so useful against squishy humans, but against tough aliens bred for war it might be just what we need.

Also, awwww, please don't take the incendiary weapons away. They have their uses, they do. I mean, I considered asking for WWII-era flamers next time!.. (I have a few other things to mention, but let's keep it to the end of the mission, I guess.)

Also - thank you for running my character.  :)

@Aigre Excalibur In anticipation of increase in alien armoredness and toughness, as well as especially in light of the next mission, I'd like to request a really large-caliber, high-power rifle. Might be an old anti-tank rifle from military stocks (should probably be quite cheap, if outdated), might be a more modern anti-materiel rifle, might be a specialised ERRANT model descending directly from the two (taking best relevant qualities of either, etc.)  - basically, I'd like a weapon that can ruin the day of any "muton", "cyberdisk", golem (SECRET CONSTRUCTS OF ALIEN JEWS!), etc. - whatever armored shit aliens might throw at us. A weapon to reach the full potential of destruction inflicted on singular armored target by modern personal ballistic weapons. ...And one that should hopefully be within our ability to buy.

@Team So, what are we to do? Better try and finish the flashbanged aliens (hoping their shell-shock takes a little more than one turn) or deal with the alien in the north-western lift lobby, dangerously flanking the team?..))

https://www.barrett.net/pdfs/price-list.pdf

The US military M82/107 cost 9-10k a piece.

A cheaper option would be the single-shot M99 or bolt-action M95 in the 5-6k range.

If we broke out anti-tank rifles from dusty museums, we wouldn't know where to get ammo for them.

You know the germans started converting theirs into rifle-grenade launchers after the bazooka concept caught on.

Modern Anti-material rifles are meant to take out soft points in hard targets from maximum range with minimum cost. A bazooka would still be more effective up-close.

Got you, Denning  [syv].
Go into NW lobby, confirm it's secured. Rig the lift with C4.

((Huh.  I'm actually somewhat disappointed by that...

Nik, you could toss a smoke.  That would prevent them from shooting you, and if they just suppress through the smoke, you'll be able to move when their mags empty--they've only got five bursts.  Alternatively, C4 the wall, or go through the front and then around the left side of the store--my smoke should cover you.))

New orders, accounting for the fact that most of our enemies are dead (please resubmit actions?): "Denning [TFTP]!  Follow me--I could use your help covering the southwest lift.  Rayner [Azy], try and get an angle to shoot the central elevator with a grenade.  We need to stem the tide ASAP."

Sprint south, to the SW elevator.  If I can, grab Zormod's M240 when I pass him (I should have smoke cover), and if I can't, swap to my shotgun.  Stop at the elevator, and examine it--is there an open shaft, or door blocking the shaft?  What floor is the elevator at?  If the elevator isn't on this floor, rig it with C4 (Either rigging the door so I have access to the shaft, or dropping C4 primed for remote detonation down the shaft).  Shouldn't need more than a kilogram for any given step.

If the elevator is on this floor, or it's heading for this floor and I wouldn't be able to C4 it before it gets here, take cover at the doorway and open up with M240 fire as soon as it's at the right level (before the door even opens--FMJ is loaded already).  If I didn't grab the M240, start firing with my shotgun as soon as the door opens.  In both cases, fire even I don't see anything.

((I will work on checking sheets Thursday.  Busy today and tomorrow.))

Recover Lilian take her back to the store and then patch her lungs and chest cavity up with my First Aid Kit and then apply pneumatic anti-shock garment. After that retrieve Cody and our most likely dead commander and take them back to the store and see if they are even still in the land of the living.

Move to the side of NW lift lobby entrance (from outside, don't enter the service access hall).
Denning [TFTH], cease fire! I'll take him. Muldoon [Dev], keep an eye on that hall.
Lob a timed frag inside the lobby; if an alien exits, shoot him. Otherwise assault the lobby right after the bang.

Nemesio Barrantes:
Got you, Denning  [syv].
Go into NW lobby, confirm it's secured. Rig the lift with C4.

((Discussion reply coming a bit later.))

You (Barrantes) enter the North-West lobby and see pasted alien all over the walls. They are all already dead. You try to sense if any enemies are moving below you, but fail an intuition roll.

Barrantes pries open the lift door with his axe and rigs the lift cables with a c4 block. His training helps him resist the urge to just dump all his explosives down the chute. (rolled a 6)

((Okay, let's try it.))

Shoot the aliens at the North with my grenade launcher.

You (Linton) take cover at the north-side of your south side store and get ready to shoot things.

Thank you.
Sprint and take cover in the southwest store.

John Dennings sprints to the Southwest to join Linton and Sean.

Clive Muldoon:

Barricade the door to the service hallway, and feed the fiber-wire under it, trying to point it down the hallway, so I can look either way.

You barricade the door with assorted furniture, then sneak your fiber-wire underneath. The alien suppressing you is GONE. Maybe it is maneuvering somewhere.

((Huh.  I'm actually somewhat disappointed by that...

((I will work on checking sheets Thursday.  Busy today and tomorrow.))

You sprint south, grabbing the M240 as you go. It's quiet down at the elevator lobby. You pry the doors open with your entrenching tool and drop remote charges down the shaft.

Your spider senses... hear nothing.

Recover Lilian take her back to the store and then patch her lungs and chest cavity up with my First Aid Kit and then apply pneumatic anti-shock garment. After that retrieve Cody and our most likely dead commander and take them back to the store and see if they are even still in the land of the living.

Sean drags Lilian south. You seal her wounds and get her high on Morphine. [Medical roll 2+2] You stabilize her with the anti-shock Garment. You know, if you had adrenalin, you could do some medical malpractice to keep her in the fight.

You run out to look at Cody and the Commander. There's blood everywhere, and they aren't twitching. Except for Cody, who stares at you and blinks. There is no pulse on either of them.

You loot what remains of their gear and drag it to the south store.

Aliens:

They are being quiet, too quiet. You also can't see any of them... Except for the last alien by the water fountain who faints from his wounds.
