i get FBs wandering into my basement quite often, its fun to watch them get mauled by the cavern wildlife, especially since the caverns are completely accessible to the rest of my fort and other than a cave croc every so often they dont bother me

You must be getting some wimpy FBs made out of snow and mud or something. All mine have been extincting my entire underground for years. 3/4s of my deceased list are all cavern FB victims at this point.

Well... up until my first cave dragon appeared.

Forgotten Beasts are funny that way. Sometimes you get a giant hummingbird made of steam that one of the fortress cats kills before you even realize what's going on and sometimes you get some a nigh indestructible skinless pterodactyl made of living metal that spews deadly dust with a brain melting syndrome that takes out your entire military by itself.

Then there are the really fun ones that are like a cross between the two where you get some whimpy forgotten beast that get's one hit by a wandering miner but not before it sprays deadly dust everywhere. Everything looks fine until a month later when dwarves start melting and you realize the syndrome has been tread through the entire damn fort and that nagging lack of socks you have been ignoring for years turns into the apocalypse.

Was about to say this. I currently have 1 FB in the 3rd cavern layer who's been effortlessly ripping through everything it's come across. The only things that seem to be doing even a bit of damage to it are the blind cave ogres, but it destroys them pretty easily too. It's made of standard flesh, not any fancy inorganic material either, and basically all of its body parts are listed as brown/red in wnd menu, but it's still going strong.

It hasn't run into any cave dragons yet though. How did your FB fare against the dragon?

In the same fort, 2nd cavern, there was some terrible giant scorpion FB (also flesh I think) that got killed by a crundle. Poor guy. I bet he gets laughed at by all the other dudes in FB heaven.

Cave dragon just showed up, and got totally wrecked. 10 pages of combat across 2 days, and it ended up giving the FB a bunch of scars while the FB choked him to death.

I've had a a forgotten beast wandering around the caverns for a while surrounded by a firestorm. It shoots fireballs or something and sets the weeds on fire regularly. It also isn't immune to fire and so is itself quite badly burned. Figure I'll just wait until it eventually kills itself with it's own fires.

Now it seems like the FB was bitten to death by a hungry head. I didn't actually see this happening, and unfortunately the combat log is showing "no recent announcements", but the last time I checked the FB was standing in 1 spot while the hungry head basically bit it everywhere. I think the hungry head got a lucky strike on the FB's eyes and it was blinded, so it couldn't fight back.

I have a firebreathing eagle in another fort, and the burns don't really seem to affect it much. The fat has melted off basically every part of its body, it's thoroughly scarred from all the fights it's had against trolls, blind cave ogres etc, and it causes big cavern fires very regularly. But it's been thriving for years flying around and burning everything that moves. Not sure if it'll actually die unless some cavern beast manages to kill it.

So maybe you should try trapping your FB without it burning all of your military to a crisp.

I remember once getting an FB so wimpy that it basically killed itself within minutes from arriving by propelling its apparently small bulk with its own emission off a bloody cliff or something, which resulted in one FB splattered all across the cavern floor. No really, my dorfs even made engravings of this little event. Killed by fart, what a wimp.

I had a big ol' dinosaur come in with a breath attack and he just ended up killing himself with the blowback from his own attack. Took out two of my military dwarves but its the staircase that got him. He would use his breath attack and it'd just ping him up and down like a Pichinko game until he died of too many broken bones.

I had a similar experience with a fire-breathing brush-titan; it was a self-correcting problem.

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".
