Reading this makes me want to make a multi generational fort.
Get a good computer, set your population low, and turtle. Also grab yourself DFhack for fixing bugs that pop up in long-running forts.

Yep, already did. :) OK well I'm willing to sacrifice fps for a 60 dwarf fort. 20 military (raiding purposes mainly) and I embarked on a tundra, hopefully that'll help.

Working on making a few controlled cave ins to secure the first cavern later before exploring it fully.

I was checking elven populations nearby as they've been attacking quite frequently, when I noticed what I always thought was a desert to the north of the fortress is actually an evil ocean called The Sea of Nightmares, which sounds amazing



Then looking to the North of that, at the other evil land, it has an even better name:



I might clone the save and have a look at these places

So for some reason upgrading from 44.05 to 44.09 increased the FPS by 5-6 points. I'll take it.

Toady mentioned he did some optimizations in one of the versions. Not sure which. Good to see it worked;)

I have always admired this fort, and you as a player, but I never got why you use a tileset. especially now, with the world map, it really messes things up :P

Thanks! When I started this fortress almost 3 years ago now I had only been playing DF for about a year so I needed the visual aid of the sprites to make sense of the game. I now equate this fortress and the way it looks so much with this tile set that it simply looks too strange to me in Vanilla, even though now as a more seasoned player I do enjoy playing with the vanilla graphics in other games I start.

Well there is a Dark Pit not too far away that a few kobolds took over after the goblins there were destroyed by a bronze colossus. Maybe I'll send a squad to kidnap one.

Be careful and don't save until all your dwarves return. I've had problems in Bastiongate with squad members vanishing.

I wonder if this a bug, or they get killed, or just go AWOL? My squads vanish quite often, usually during artifact hunts, while being listed as "traveling"...

Yeah I tried to send a squad on a raid and the game crashed, so I’ll just wait to send anymore out until later updates.
