Thanks for the interest you guys!

Further to the point of the goblin invasions (and sorry for the image heavy post in advance) here are most of the primary weapons being used to kill all of the goblins:

The weapons are a good tracker to see how many goblins have been killed. I’ve even included a couple of shields because they get kills too. This is not even to mention the ones that have punched to death or melted.
Their population still shows as over 5000, and the nearby sites are between 30 and 100, so I’m not sure where the goblins are all coming from.

Try looking up some of the first goblins in the siege when they come. Squad leaders are usually historical figures.

Here's a few of the last squad leaders who invaded. Note, they are all from different sites:

Those are some weird-ass names, plus they have no events pre-gen. They're definitely just made up for invasion purposes. Try checking populations before and after a siege, maybe?

PTW.

After 400 years the bucket disintegrated from wear.
Never in the history of Dwarf Fortress has anyone else ever had this problem.

It's amazing that Toady even thought to include a mechanic for it. I wonder how many others have seen this happen before?

Even if you found a suitable opening, I doubt it would prove all too satisfying. And it might leave some nasty wounds, depending on the moral high ground's geology.

Thanks for following everyone!

So I upgraded to 44.05 and raided the necromancer tower again, got the book of secrets of life and death, and made a small secret library to store it in:

This is the awesome random name the secret library is called:

Located in the middle of an eerie glowing pit, contains the only necromancer book: Victory by Doom. So metal  :D

You should get one more dwarf in there, and have them rotate on a tavern keeper schedule, so they don't slow down from lack of alcohol.
a personal barracks, and temple will help too, dwarves slow down from being distracted too.

Anything that can be ignited or burned can wear since that's how the game tracks fire damage; due to the fact the same mechanic also controls clothing damage and you get wood disappearing. I'm not sure if its a case of Toady thinks of everything, or simply some insanely long default value. I vaguely remember people discussing wood showing up x after a century since a few forts got that far, but I think this is the first actual fort to have wood items to have a terminal terminate infection.

Anyway, can't you make clear glass buckets? and the sheer amount of glass makers should mean you have glass beds as well.

Fucking hell man, you aren't just getting the short end of the stick, you're being beaten with it.

Is your plan really to flush water into hell, and have the CARP marines fight them without threat of flame or disease?  If so, you are awesome, and one of the greatest DF military visionaries I've seen yet ( not that I've seen that many, or any, for that matter )

Bastiongate's wood started getting a little worn after 50 years, but that's it.
