Well, that's a good sign...

This is the starting location I ended up with.

Uh.. this can't bode well for my poor settlers.

What's in it? You have to post what's in there. And what it looks like.

Good luck.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

That's sand and not Magma, right?

Yeah, that's red sand.

After skimming the map, I discovered that the cave is a HUGE kobold city. 50 kobolds total, after counting those on the unit list.

1 kobold Master Thief (extremely strong)
1 kobold Elite Bowman (ultra-mighty, very agile)
1 kobold Elite Bowman (ruler) (strong, unbelievably agile, very tough)
24 kobold peons.

... 23 kobold guards, various levels of kick-assedness. All of them appear to either be crossbowmen or spearmen.

Edit: You know.. this kinda makes me want to try a community fort.

I, for one, think this sounds like an amazing map.

Here's the map.

On the upshot, it appears to have a hefty amount of hematite.

You can always divert the stream and flood them out!

be warned it will take years to get them all and slow your fort down to a crawl though  :(

This could possibly be one of the most kick-ass succession games ever.

So, an update..

The lag on this map doesn't seem too bad, so I've been working out a quick start-up fortress to launch a community game from, if it warrants enough interest. Unfortunately, the Above Ground/Subterranean bug in 33e has broken the farming, so I'm going to have to revert back to 33d and see how things work out.

Reading the bug report thread about this, it looks like farming should still work if you maintain a layer of unmined stone/soil between the farm layer and the surface, although I haven't had a chance to test it yet - the problem being that floors by themselves are now "permeable".

You sir, have just won the non-existant contest for BEST DAMN STARTING POINT EVER.

You have, however, as all of you reading this post just have, lost The Game.
