@Cheese: I've been paralyzed by a mental block. I'll finish the heretek to be playable today then polish him later, so that in any case I'll at least have a character ready to go.

@Gigla: Yeah, I think a few things lacking in the new chargen's flexible nature are the classically generic Imperial World option for homeworld and more background options. It seems Outcast ends up being the go-to option for several cases when none of the other more specific options fit.

Edit: Can I have a houserule that makes it so that I don't have to buy specializations for each xeno? Forbidden Lore is already a specialist skill that eagerly consumes your experience, so having specializations inside a specialist skill is just asking to kill my concept.

Ok, a couple of questions. Does the parry bonus of the sword and shield stack?

Would I be able to buy chain training for 100xp? I don't currently have access to a rulebook.

No, they don't stack. It's part of why a defensive melee fighter with Counter Attack is better off with a good or best craftsmanship balanced weapon (a sword, usually) since you counter with the same weapon you parried.

Your lack of Finesse means that weapon training talents cost 300xp.

Damn. I'm half tempted to scrap psychic null and get chain training instead, but no.

I think I might as well replace the shield with something.  Any recommendations,  Cael?

The shield is quite good for the extra AP. If you never plan on going the counter attack route, I advise you to get it still, but good craftsmanship instead (Common items made Good jump up to Scarce). Alternatively, get a good-craftsmanship sword instead and apply mono to that one.

Yeah, I think a good mono sword might be the best idea. I'll scrap the shield.

Hey cheese, can I trade my normal sword for something of the same availability?

I think I'll get a multikey and auspex for my character's extra items. That'll unfortunately leave him without any proper armor for his head since the flak cloak got nerfed since DH1e, so forgive me if I decide to stay a good distance away from any threats. Preferentially using another character as cover.

@Twin: Technical Knock is usually better than Weapon-Tech. In case your - or a nearby ally's - weapon malfunctions, being able to unjam it without the need of rolling BS can be a boon. Weapon Tech only gives your IntB as extra damage and penetration for a single turn, once per encounter, and to make things worse only works on weapons of the Plasma, Melta, Power and Exotic families.

Alright. Didn't realize the limitations of Weapon-Tech.

Also, I've added my sheet to my first post in this thread, and that's the one I'll be updating.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Hm... How about this: you get Forbidden Lore for almost all the known Xenos races (Orks, Eldar, etc.) but you wouldn't get as much info than if you'd bought their specific specialization? If you're cool with that, then I'll allow it.

Yeah, I think a good mono sword might be the best idea. I'll scrap the shield.

Sure.

Once you guys give are all done, post your updated sheets again please, and I'll write the OP for the game.

Ok, here is Deacon 2.0. I just need help with the stats above the first line and my equipment.

What does a Psy Focus do? What does a Micro-Bead do?

Psy focus
Many psykers use these small, personalised items to steady themselves before accessing the terrible powers of the Warp. Each is different; some might be no more than a carved finger bone or pressed flower, while others could be a softly glowing crystal or void-iron glyph. All, however, are specially attuned to their bearers through long meditation or ritual, allowing them greater control over their abilities. When a psyker with a psy focus makes a Focus Power test (see page 194), he gains a +10 bonus.

Micro-Bead
Also known as a bead-comm, these small devices are worn in the ear and allow for short-range communications out to roughly 1 kilometre (depending on weather conditions and intervening terrain). Each fits discreetly in the ear, with higher Craftsmanship models nearly undetectable in casual inspection
