Name: Kanaka Yuroi
Personal history: The woman now known as Dragon of Honoi was once just an administrator, albeit a very effective one, in charge of the Far Honoi division of Jyuren-Troshkya Information Technologies. Intimately familiar with the intricacies of negotiation, public relations, and information manipulation, she made a very effective ally for the rebels, both before and during the war. While other leaders relied on fear or skill alone to obtain respect, Kanaka made use of her work experience; those she now leads adore her, not just for her role in the civil war, but for her ability and willingness to take into account their concerns. Detractors might claim this is only because she keeps them from knowing where she goes astray, but if this is true, her grip on information in the sector is incredibly effective.
Director Yonoi, as is her official title, was never particularly gregarious or divisive. Simply efficient, adaptable, and smart enough to listen. She managed to leverage her connections, the all-overriding call of necessity, and the goodwill of the citizens of the Honoi Sector in order to gain the position she has now. Everyone knows that ships make you powerful. Kanaka Yonoi knows that information makes you more so.
Sector description and history : The Honoi Gulf Sector is famous primarily for two things; the advances made there in neural-links, uploading human consciousness and so-called "Natural Intelligence", and for the relatively low density of habitable star systems towards the center of the sector, practically cutting it in two. The sector nearer to the center of Imperial authority is richer in raw materials, asteroid belts, dust clouds, nebula and rich worlds for farming and basic manufacturing, and is know as Near Honoi. Far Honoi, on the other side of the Gulf, is more focused on culture, technology, and finished goods. While Honoi bears the marks of a long and distinguished history, it also bears the scars of war. The Gulf has become even more empty; many of the waystations and outposts there were military, or turned to a military capacity during the war, for their strategic position. The vast majority of these were devastated, for one reason or another. As a result, the remaining routes through the Gulf are guarded carefully, while exploration, colonization, and rebuilding have been heavily subsidized for those who can help in making the Gulf passable once more. In a sector with such a fond history with capitalism and markets, this has resulted in a glut of struggles, recovery projects, and colonies dotted throughout the void.
Far Honoi's relative isolation, and largely unspoilt hand since the war -though accounts were exhausted and production strained to limits, little was burnt or pillaged- has resulted in a unique technological position, one that has continued since before the war and after. Most significant of these, however, is their use of jack-crewed ships, in which full or partial uploads-also known as 'jacks'- direct the operations of the vessel. With bodies in cryo-storage or purely electromechanical, life support and wasted space is minimised. This allows both for more effective trading, particularly on empty stretches through the Gulf, and for warship crews who have vastly improved reaction time, besides the advantages in space and, purportedly, cost. Use in ground-side warmachines is decidedly more experimental, however...
