Betrayed by Lava!
« on: December 09, 2007, 03:26:00 pm »

ARRGH!
Why didn't someone tell me that you can't close a floodgate after it lets lava through!!!
Now I have a pit that used to be an aquafer slowly filling up, and I can't channel any water in because my miners went to sleep!

So I'm just slowly watching the red numbers creep higher...

Oh well, at least its a memorable death.

It's not that it can't close, it's that it melts the mechanisms after it opens.

Not if temperature is off before you open the floodgate...  :)

Well, depends on what the mechanism is made out of.

Aye - bauxite(sp?), raw adamantium, maybe a few other things. Also, Graphite and coal stone will burn, producing smoke, but AFAIK will still last a while.

Remember, iron doesn't melt in magma anymore. Make iron mechanisms.

Unless this is something new, you can only make mechanisms out of stone.

Someone with access to the raws should probably check, but I would guess that the ore would not be magma-safe, even if the metal from it is.

The ores have default melting points, in general.  I doubt that hematite/magnetite/native platinum would withstand magma.
