Few hijinks from yesterday's stream:

Spam. Dwarven Dead Poets Society.
40 human tavern-goers saved the fort from werecreature ruin by dogpiling the infected dwarves. RIP in pieces. Always have the tavern near the entrance/main hall.
In another fort's timeline, were-possums and giant kea zombies in a haunted biome made dwarves into deadmeat, which came back to life to create more zombie dwarves. That fort wiped within 2 seasons. The AI doesn't know how to deal with the dead rising.
The dwarves beat on an unconscious giant raven for 5 seasons straight.

Spoiler: New stream format (click to show/hide)

Yesterday we had a lot of people, over 40! at a time. Today has been quiet for Friday and heading into the weekend, we have 14 viewers currently.

Not much to report. We died repeatedly to zombies, werecreature attacks, and finally had a fort that survived getting down to 2 dwarves before lasting all day. We just started a new fort with zombies (again)!

What the hell?

An AI is able to play such a complex game as Dwarf Fortress, something I have thought would be possible in 2020 and it is happening literally now?!
And I see no headline in newspapers or any important announcement?

"Yeah we can now make computer play DF, now letīs start cloning people..." *yawns*

That is absolutely weird to me, or is this not regarded as some technological breakthrough? Because to me, this is awesome.

Well, it seems to rely on DFHack, which gives it a handicap on available information and avoiding micromanagement. The fortress is built by intelligent placement of player-designed blueprints. It doesn't understand military yet.

It's an impressive accomplishment to be sure, but it's not that impressive AI-wise. It's essentially the same thing as an AI player in any other RTS game ever, just hacked in through a third-party script.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

It mostly understands military, which is somewhat impressive.

Having run this 24/7 the last few days, here's what it does:

Makes squads
Equips squads
Has squads train by sparring
If a forgotten beast or megabeast attacks, it issues a kill order to the active squads to attack the threat

Now what it fails at:
Reacting to sieges, breaching [SPOILERS], or general multi creature nuisances because it doesn't understand where to station the squads in such a situation. Squads will continue training while most dwarves die only to finally react when they have visual of the enemy.

So in this way I would say that the AI has a better handle of military than 50% of most DF players.

Sure, because once it knows how to send keystrokes to game it can access military screen, setting equipment and such. But knowing where are those squads currently needed is a much bigger task, the more things like put archers here on this wall so when those enemies that are now approaching from north come closer they get shot from behind. Though some such partial tactic part may be possible through specialized templates, of walls with, ehm, let's call it, with rally points, I guess.

I think the fortress is succumbing to a werecoyote infestation.
