sugar buzz?
« on: December 08, 2007, 02:35:00 pm »

The sweet pod harvest was successful, and we were blessed with an abundance of dwarven syrup.  A bit over-blessed actually as the syrup took up all the free barrels, and my chef/bartender grumbled that there were no free barrels left for brewing.  And due to an appalling lack of oversight we were out of anything drarven, and were forced to broach the barrels of strawberry wine and sewer brew bought from the treehuggers and humans (shudder).  Something had to be done, and fast.  So I instructed the chef to make lavish meals so that we could free up the barrels for brewing.  Little did I know how literally he would take me...

His dish: *Dwarven Syrup Roast*

This is a stack of 39 finely-prepared Dwarven syrup roast.  The ingredients are finely minced Dwarven syrup, finely minced Dwarven syrup, finely minced Dwarven syrup and superiorly minced Dwarven syrup.

We are hoping the next caravan will sell us some milk to wash this down...

Maybe he froze the syrup and then minced it.

So he hast spoken, so it may be.
You must ensign all of your syrup to the lava.

SYRUP FOR THE BLOOD GOD.

...

Frozen minced syrup doesn't sound too bad actually.

Hmm... wonder if sweet pod syrup is like maple syrup? Or maybe, it's entirely different and used on
+dwarven spaghetti+ or something. Everyone seems to come to the conclusion it's sweet too, just because of it's name. Maybe some explorer dude was starving when he first came to the country, and he saw the food and was like, "Sweet, dude!". Gotta stop letting my mind free.

Helm, you ever milled sweet pods?  You get "Dwarven Sugar"  I really, really hope it is sweet.

This is totally making me want to create a cooking mod!

Milled cave wheat flour -> noodles + hoary marmot meat + sweet pod syrup = dwarvern spagetti

I would imagine that dwarven syrup is a solid...and fermented for eight months.

When recipes come in, I hope they are moddable like the smelter reactions so we can create things like:

meat + hot pepper + any plant -> chilli con carne
flour + sugar + tallow -> biscuit
flour + sugar + fruit -> cake
biscuit + cheese -> cheesecake
biscuit + cheese + any plant -> (wild strawberry) cheesecake
syrup + sugar -> toffee
any spice + any -> (kitten meat) curry
meat + booze + flour -> (hoary marmot) steak & (ale) pie
tallow + any -> fried (plump helmets)

Considering Dwarven milk is made from Maggots, I have my suspicions about the taste of Dwarven "Sugar".
