Trying to get an Age of Emptiness world, help
« on: February 05, 2016, 10:49:49 am »

So I've been messing around with the raws for creating an Age of Emptiness world. Discovered that goblins and elves are immortal according to the wiki so I put the [MAXAGE] token and also deleted the [FEMALE] caste to them so all civilized creatures would die of old age. Then I tried creating a world and came with this:

That's exactly what I wanted! But when the world was generated, I looked up at the Legends and I realized that there wasn't a single civilized creature in the whole generated history. The world even changed from The Age of Legends!

What happened, guys? I didn't touch the entity_default file, what gone wrong?

A civilization needs both male and female castes in order to spawn in the first place. It used to be that children also needed to be present, but that's no longer the case.

I see, so what can I do for killing civs in the world gen? As you can see, I don't mind modding the raws so "cheating" is welcome

Try giving both castes extremely short lifespans perhaps? I wonder if it's possible to make cretures die of old age before reaching adulthood. Would be useful outside of hacky world-genning for modelling an axolotl's life cycle!

Making creatures have really short lifespans has already been tested on goblins to try to get them to have lower populations and stop crowding dark fortresses so much. It didn't work. Even if they died before reaching adulthood they'd still have children somehow. It was actually quite annoying. There were a lot of methods tested, none of which did anything to limit the goblin populations.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

Yeah, but it's better to try it again in this version, are that methods for an older version?

Make every goblin perfectly asexual. [ORIENTATION:MALE:1:0:0] and the same for FEMALE.

Okay, so I tried the asexual thing with all civs and it didn't werk, and the population number went terrifyingly high! Look at the Legends viewer screenshot:

IIRC you used to be able to do something like this by setting one caste's frequency to 0?

No. POP_RATIO:0 has no effect. And by that I mean that it is as if it isn't present.

It might have been practically-0, like 9999999999 to 1.

Weirdly enough its actually easy enough to spawn enough megabeasts to wipe out pretty much every civilisation, enough that when making an adventurer you have no specific place to pick from and start in a cave somewhere.

But somehow the game still thinks there are historic figures around and keeps the age at 'Age of Myth'. Not sure what's up with that.
