Taverns. Stories, rum, and food. This is the place where you go to relax all your worries, as an adventuring party has many of those, what with all the lost limbs and spiked companions. But, you are a group of fresh faces in this tavern, and people are wary of you. Some such people dare to challenge your adventuring skill! How dare they! But you won't let that stand, will you? No, you won't. That was rhetorical. Go, find some loot, and kill some mythical beasts! If only to prove that you are actually good at your job, which you just started, so you technically aren't.... But that is irrelevant! Go, to questing!
Oh wait, characters are a good idea too, huh?
Name: I don't have to tell you.
Appearance: I still shouldn't have to tell you.
Species: Just put whatever you want here, I'll determine whether or not it's unbalanced.
Background: Yes, you do have to develop your characters history! Hahahahha!
Skills:
Make these up depending on your background. If you can't be bothered, I will. You can make 2 background skills, and a 3rd racial skill.
Flaws:
See above.
Equipment:
Depends on your background, but nothing more than you would actually have. You start with 3 travel rations each (3 days worth) and that includes drink.
Combat Techniques:
Attack - (Depends on your stuff)
Defend - ("")
(Put an technique that is unique to your character) -
("") -
Everything that happens in the world(aside from actual skill rolls) will be determined by my roll of a d20, 1-being a very bad thing 20-being mythically good, so is probably a trap.
Skill rolls will be rolled on a d6, but depending on player Skills this can change. Combat is a different mug of rum altogether.
Combat will be turn-based. You can learn new techniques, but these take time to practice. Initiative is rolled to see who goes first, as per usual. Except, it is rolled on a dice that is modified by the speed of your presented action (which will be decided at my discretion, of course) and will be rolled for every action/turn.
Travelling, will in fact, be sprinkled with encounters, which may lead on to entirely new quests altogether. There is no real goal here aside from killing all the mythical beasts. All of them. All.
Species will provide unique Skills and Flaws, depending (obviously), and can either be decided by you or by me. One Skill, and one Flaw.
I think that's everything. Now go! Bring back some mythical beasts heads to prove the rest of these peons wrong!
Here's the rest of your
patheticparty.
Name: Terros
Appearance: Let's start with "tall human". Wait... pointy ears... wait... grayish skin, shot through with lines of red... wait... there seem to be swirling energy vortexes in his pupils... wait... armored robes... wait... oh wait now he's a giant angry cloud of purple mist.
Species: High Elf/Eldritch Force
Backstory: Travos was a high elf. Pretty standard one, at that. He was a binder of magic forces and spirits, elementals and planar beings, bringing them to this world, then using them for attacks, as minions, or infusing them into items... then one day he bound something he didn't mean to bind. Worse, he infused it into himself. Terry was an eldritch force capable of ridiculous amounts of damage dealing... incredibly powerful, to say the least. But this accursed Life Pact- if the body he's bound to dies, he will be... destroyed. If he could channel energy without burnout, Terros, the combination of Travos and Terry, would be an unstoppable mage. This burnout, however... if he tries to lend too much energy... splat. So now several years have passed, and they're mostly only one being together. Dying is still probably going to be a bad idea though.
Skills:
Arcane Binding: Terros can summon spirits/forces/elementals/planar beings/whatnot from... places... and bind them to: be his minions, be projectiles or blasts, be infused into items to make them magic...
Chance of Chaos: Terros can apply tweaks to probability, to make what really shouldn't happen... happen. Courtesy of Terry.
Channel Chaos Energy(racial): Terros can direct chaos energy through his veins, making them glow red, and boosting the power of his spell casting. Overdoing it tends to have consequences, however...
Flaws:
Fell Mood: And sometimes, he just cackles with maniacal laughter and infuses something he bound into a random nearby person. Just to see what will happen. Thankfully a rare occurrence.
Something's Gone Wrong: having a chaos aura tends to make things just... go wrong. Defying probability.
Backlash(racial): When Terros Channels Chaos Energy... overdoing it enhances the chance of Something's Gone Wrong and Fell Mood triggering. Plus explosions.
((feel free to edit my skills and flaws if they don't seem right.))
Equipment:
3 days worth of travel rations.
Armored robes(robes with metal plates woven into them at certain places to provide more protection than the average set of robes), complete with hood.
Binder's staff, specially made to store elementals and use their power. Currently empty.
Sandals.
Pouch of focus crystals to amplify the speed of summoning and the binding of said summons.
Some specially made glass lenses to hide the whole "swirling energy vortexes in eyes" thing.
Combat Techniques:
Attack: Clobber: Simply whacking somebody with a staff tends to have good results.
Defend: RUN: if that fails, and magic isn't available, running away tends to be a good idea.
Special: CHAOS MODE: Terros draws a large amount of Chaos Energy, then infuses it into himself, becoming a Chaos Elemental temporarily.
Name: Ithaca Rolea
Appearance: A skinny girl with one glass eye and a monocle on the other, worn on a long golden chain that connects to a pocketwatch (in her right pocket). Has red curly hair. Wears a dark hood and gray/black robes.
Species: Magician - from a population of humans that lived isolated in a grand library for thousands of years. They would enthrall kobolds and lesser beings to go out and collect food, spending most of their time supposedly researching magic and philosophy. In practice, they actually sat around doing nothing, so they've become physically weak over the years even though they keep themselves looking young through magic.
However, being around magic so long has caused them to become used to the presence of magic, numbing their senses to it. Conversely, a magician can clearly tell where magic isn't, giving her de facto magic-sensing ability.
Background:
Known as the 55th Timekeeper of the Historian Order, Ithaca was raised in one of the most physically demanding roles in the Library: rewinding the clocktower when it began to lag. Appalled by the general laziness of the magicians, she took an interest in history and nature, especially how populations ecosystems change over time. Surmising that her co-magicians' laziness could be attributed to the ease of magic, she neglected to learn most of the common spells herself, and instead looked at more esoteric forms. In her case, it was Time Magic.
While it may have been true that Time Magic made her job much easier (she would freeze the clocktower in time except when people came to check on it, thus increasing its operational lifespan and reducing the frequency of rewinds), and while it may have been true that Time Magic eliminated a lot of painstaking jobs in her section of the library (why worry about keeping books in the proper moisture environment and minimizing wear when you can freeze them in time?), and indeed it was true that Time Magic altogether supported a very unhealthy and procrastinatory lifestyle for Ithaca and her comagicians (she made a terrible, terrible habit of stopping the clock just before deadlines, so she could start on the work proscribed)...
Ah, to hell with it. Her superiors would have none of it, anyway. They banished her just as she was finising her magnum opus, a treatise regarding the stars and the immutability of the heavens. Much to her dismay, a jealous colleague stole the manuscript and published it without giving any credit, leaving her poor and without reputation, also cast out into the world with few belongings of her own.
Cast into the outside world, Ithaca has now shifted her focus to performing odd jobs with her magic (she doesn't usually tell anyone about it) and fighting giant monsters on the occasion.
Skills:
Literate: Ithaca creates plenty of free time for herself, and has studied the stars and heavens to the point of knowing every constellation in three different cultural backgrounds.
Photographic Memory: Ithaca is good at remembering things, including spells. This helps her learn new things quickly, although it doesn't do much to actually help cast anything.
Lightweight: Ithaca slowed some of her internal organs some time ago and has had difficulties restoring them, so she generally doesn't need to eat as much. She's also lighter and faster as a result.
Flaws:
Slacker: Ithaca is completely and hopelessly incapable of performing economically viable tasks without abusing her magic, and financial tasks altogether.
Gullible: Ithaca is terrible at predicting moves and reactions from other people. She also never. gets. jokes.
Clumsy: Though she is more than capable of moving around, her dexterity leaves much to be desired, especially in melee combat.
Equipment:
6? days worth of rations (see Lightweight trait)
Monocle: She needs it to see if her glass eye needs cleaning
Magic Eye: When it's polished, she can see clearly and with depth perception. It gets dirty often.
Magic Watch: A pocketwatch that's immune to Ithaca's spells. It also seems to keep on ticking without a power source.
Textbook: Logic, Astrology, and Representative Government: An Exhaustive Guide. She writes her spells in the margins.
Bear Traps: These don't have a trigger mechanism. She freezes them in time and opens them, then when they get stepped on the spell wears off and they snap shut.
Hooks and needles
A ball of yarn
A set of Kunai
A wrist-mounted, gold-plated crossbow without a trigger. She freezes it in time and releases the spell after aiming.
Combat Techniques:
Attack - Ithaca mostly uses clockwork weapons and gadgets. She prefers ranged combat, and traps especially.
Defend - Ithaca can visualize ballistic trajectories and the paths of missiles very easily, so she prefers to dodge most attacks and minimize her profile.
Nature's Pendulum - Ithaca is naturally attuned to the rhythms and clockwork of nature, allowing her to stop or speed up time for objects temporarily. People can still move around, as can intelligent animals. She has always aspired to perform feats such as stopping the Earth's rotation, but she is nowhere near powerful enough to do that. Yet.
There are three main ways she can freeze things:
1) Totally freezing an object in time. It is stuck in place and cannot move, even when subjected to an unstoppable force. Of course, all the forces applied to it still take effect after the spell wears off.
2) Freezing an object, but still leaving it malleable. All chemical reactions are stopped, but the object can still be moved around by physical manupilation.
3) Freezing an object in a way that physical contact with a human sets it off.
She can dispell most of her own spells with nothing more than a whisper.
Name: Urgnulg'iassuftnnlgn (He Who Cuts Shallow)
Appearance: A nearly naked fish-man brute, clothed in only a loincloth and a scabbard for his massive, super-serrated blade. His chromatic scales alternate different shades of Orange and Yellow.
Species: Styxian (Demon Fish-Folk)
Background: A warrior trained from birth in the art of Bloodletting, he has reached the age of manhood, and must go out to prove himself a worthy vessel of the brutal art.
Skills:
Warrior Training- Trained from birth in the art of Bloodletting, a vicious style focusing on bloody combat, and the acquisition of power from the life let loose to kill more.
skill.
Blood Magic- Has learned a minor form of this by virtue of his training.
(Racial)Strength from the Deep Sea- Ridiculously strong due to living under tons of pressure in the deep sea for all his life.
Flaws:
Bloodthirsty-Once he starts killing, its hard to stop.
1000 Years Behind the Status Quo-Living under the sea, he never learned the surface's trends
(Racial)No Land Legs-Clumsy on land due to the differences between gravity between the different life styles.
Equipment:
Super-Serrated 2 Handed Blade
3 rations of fish food
Combat Techniques:
Attack - Relentless, bloody onslaught
Defend - Tough it out
Bloodthirsty Berserk - Strikes faster, harder, bloodier, the more blood is spilt.
Name: Skeliborn
Appearance: Average size human male.
Species: Human
Background: Skeliborn the Blademaster is a travelling knight from a magic kingdom that was destroyed by a dragon.
Skills:
Summon Blade(Either Summons a random sword with random enchants/power levels/size/shape/etc based on luck, skill proficiency, etc or Summon a specified blade in which the roll has debuffs for added features)
Blade Forge(Either creates a blade using a set of materials gathered or combines blades together to get a new more powerful blade or upgrade an existing blade using a set of materials),
Fire Slash (shooting a fireball from swords).
Flaws:
Skelliborn's focus on attack power makes his residence to attacks that hit much less than normal.
Equipment: Vortex Bane (The name of a sword which I created for my character in another forum game. Obviously it starts out as a perfectly normal sword when its comes into a game as starter gear. I assume I will be able to upgrade it later on), 3 days of rations(re-stated from the basic rules), basic human clothing, Awesome Sunglasses (Because it looks cool).
Combat Techniques: Fencing and other various sword skills combined with magic abilities listed above.
Attack - Sword Slash
Defend - Evasion Flash
Name: Gabe Rutger
Appearance: He is thin and pale but deceptively strong. His face is ugly, covered with bright hideous scars. He has a hook nose, shifty brow , dark sunken eyes with bags underneath. His hair is jet black and matty and he has a stubbly beard. He has anchor tattoos on his forearms. Frequently smokes a pipe.
Species: Human
Background: Pirate, thief and scofflaw since he was old enough to work he has made his living plundering ships murdering for cash. He doesn't necessarily think that he is evil however. He views himself as a survivor, doing what is necessary to get by in a dog-eat-dog world. He was actually quite loyal to his shipmates and proved to be a hard worker, capable and a quick study. After the captain of his ship the Nimarrin was caught by the authorities and hung, he left the seafaring way of life and decided to search for adventure on the land.
Skills: back on terra firma he found employment in adventure easy to get as his skills from the sea were quite portable. Navigation, foreign languages negotiation, blending in with locals in strange cities and a sixth sense for mortal danger. He also has no qualms about commiting theft and is inclined to pinch anything he wants, he has alot of practice stealing. His martial skills with cutlass and flintlock pistol have also come in handy especially when his adventures had taken a turn for the worse.
Flaws:He never received a formal education. He is semi-illiterate. Does not have any social graces and could never fit in with high society due to appearance and manners. Looks untrustworthy and definately isn't around strangers, he's prone to stealing for no real reason or even flashes of senseless violence and bullying when his temper flares. He has problems with getting into fights due to his appearance and manners. He is also jittery and takes twice as long to rest and recover due to his inability to relax.
Equipment: Shabby clothes including a heavy coat and dirty bandana, pipe, some matches matches and tobacco, Rum Flask, 3 days travel rations (Jerky, stale bread), Compass and maps, his last paid wage of a couple dozen gold coins, a large pack with sleeping bag and canvas tarp, a well used cutlass in a scabbard, a waist holstered flint-lock pistol with ample shot.
Combat Techniques:
Attack - He has learned several methods of attack with the tools of his trade, namely , QUICKDRAW- an unaimed shot that always gets off before the enemy is ready. SNIPE-The opposite of quickshot this attack takes much longer, slowly squeezing a well aimed accurate shot obtained by resting his flint-lock on his other forearm.
Defend - Sixth SENSE-It is nearly impossible to sneak attack Gabe due to his reflexes and his uncanny knack for sensing danger.
RIPOSTE-With his wicked cutlass this close range manoeuvre allows the enemy to commit and then Gabee side steps the attack and answers with one of his own.
Name: Valyrie
Appearance: An animate silhouette of a human female with bat wings and a spaded tail, she appears as darkness in the light, and as light in the dark. she casts no shadow and the details of her appearance are hidden. her outline does include clothing so stop being weird.
Species: Greater Twilight Echo
Background: Valyrie intentionally keeps most of her background hidden, but She was last seen here ((Was a character from start to finish)). She also is a prime example of why you should be careful about what you summon and how you do it. Considering her similarity to known monster types, she finds ways to avoid most social situations. She also doesn't seem to care about things like money or property ownership. What happened to Efa and her other previous traveling companions is unknown, but Valyrie has shown up again and the others haven't, so make of that what you will.
Skills:
-Her racial properties are extensive and complex, so I am assuming they fill all her skill / flaw slots. if not, then I can add them in-
Flaws:
See above.
Equipment:
No normal equipment, but she always seems to be able to pull out the silhouette of a knife whenever she needs one.
Combat Techniques:
Attack - Valyrie has some basic knowlege of how to use a knife, but nothing noteworthy. She prefers to fight in other ways...
Defend - Valyrie's defensive technique is quite lacking. The only thing worth mentioning is she does try to control what part of her gets hit by attacks, blocking with her arms as best she is able most of the time. But considering her line of work, it's likely she has something else...
(Put an technique that is unique to your character) - Racial Properties. She is the only Greater Twilight Echo currently known, and even normal ones are very rare. This results in it being extremely hard to find information about her race.
